Traveling again to Kauai this July and will be spending several days at Tunnels.

I am looking for a decent digital underwater camera to take some pics while Snorkeling only, so I don't need anything with a very deep depth tolerance.

Would like to keep price under or around $300.

Anyone with any suggestions on brand and type favorites and possibly where to purchase for best pricing.

I have tried the cheapie, use one time cameras you can buy in Walmart, etc. I am looking to upgrade a bit from that.

I ordered a camera from olympus(not sure of the spelling sorry ) it is water proof in feet,dust proof,cold proof. AND SOMEWHAT CHUSH PROOF.I paid around 3oo. hundred for it on line.

Canon makes amazingly great little digital cameras and they have a line of underwater housings that go with them. The total package might be more than $300, but then you will have a great tiny digital for land use too.

I love my Olympus 770SW - that's exactly what I use it for and I am tickled pink with the performance. Rated waterproof to 30', drop-safe to 5' onto concrete, tons of functions.

Here's another vote for thte Olympus 770 SW. I've taken that trip on more snorkel trips and beach days than I can count and it's still going strong. I've even dropped it a few times with no discernible damage done. The photos, both above and below water, are of good quality.

I should warn you, however, that taking good underwater shots has been mostly luck. There is no viewfinder--just a large screen on the back, and when underwater it's usually impossible to see what I'm taking pictures of when I have my snorkel gear on. Especially if the sun is high in the sky and reflecting off the face of the viewfinder when I'm holding it out in front of me. Still, I've wound up with some amazing underwater shots and I'm happy to have a camera I don't have to worry about getting wet.

You can buy a point and shoot that uses film from REI. Costs about $15.
