Although I've never stayed there I have stayed across the street at the King Kamehameha, and I have walked around the little courtyard in Uncle Billy's and it seemed very moderate to average. It is right in Kona town, and central to everything, but it seemed very "basic" I know that I've seen pictures of the rooms on some web site but I can't remember which site, and the rooms seemed a little on the small side from what I remember.

i just got back from 2 weeks on the big island. I remember walking by uncle billys and thinking i'm glad i'm not staying there, its right in the heart of the tourist strip in downtown kona . It looks very ordinary. If you are on a budget I recommend the Kona Tiki about a mile north on the same road (ali'i drive) Its right on the ocean and the price cant be beat and it has the feel of a b&b as they serve a informal breakfast. Need to call ahead on the KOna TIki as they are booked fairly solid with repeat customers . have a fun trip Al

My daughter and her husband stayed there for a couple of nights during their Christmas vacation this year. They reported that it was certainly budget-quality (i.e. no frills) but clean and adequate, but they also commented that the restaurant was awful. I decided to put this to the test and when I went in March I had dinner there. They were right! The restaurant looks pleasant enough but it's poised right over the traffic fumes from Alii Drive and the food was edible, but nothing to write home about (although I did!).
