U.S.Open suggestions? hotel etc.
Will be going to the U.S.Open over Labor Day weekend. Have never been to New York before and will be spending a lot of time touring the city as well. Any recommendations for hotels under $200, will be doing most of the tourist things. Don't mind walking. I am 27 and want to see the city during the day and at night.

I'm envious -- I've always wanted to go to the U.S. Open & hope to one of these years. The Hotel Edison in midtown Manhattan has a great location for exploring the city and very low rates, well-within your price range (a year or so ago it was $115 plus tax (taxes are hefty in New York so watch out for those) for a double, not sure what it is now). I've stayed there numerous times and liked it every time. It's not fancy and the rooms aren't large (hard to find big rooms in the city) but it is clean and dependable and has what I think is an unbeatable location, just off Broadway only a couple of blocks from Times Square, so it's very convenient for subway access to everything. There is a pretty good coffee shop on the main level for breakfast (where a famous scene from "The Godfather" was filmed), and there are lots of very good restaurants nearby for dinner (I like Joe Allen's, Le Madeleine, and John's Pizzeria). Make sure you go to Ellis Island while you're in New York -- it's fascinating.

Will be at the open the same time...going over labor day is great - more meaningful matches, and weather is usually good.
Would strongly recommend staying in Manhattan, for convenience sake. Also, instead of taking the subway to the Open, take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from Penn Station. Maybe $1 more, but MUCH faster and more comfortable!!!
