Tucson Hotels
Hi all -
Heading to Tucson in March and am looking for recommendations for lodging. I'm leaning toward the Windmill Inn as it sounds like it's in a great location and it gets good reviews. Are there any other similar places in that general area that we could check out to comparison shop? We don't need a "suite", but would like a fridge in the room.
Also....how is the trip to Nogales, Mexico? Can you walk across the border in be in the "tourist" area, or do you need to drive.
Thanks!

Windmill Inn is in a great location, close to many restaurants, shopping, etc. All the rooms are suites. We frequently put people up at this hotel when they visited my office (I live in Tucson) and everyone loved it. The Hampton Inn on Oracle Rd. has friges in the rooms, but the Windmill is a nicer place overall and location wise it is very good.
You can park your car on the US side of the border and walk across to the tourist shops, cafes, etc. I am sure there will be many people who will tell you not to go, but if you keep an open mind (it is a border town and other country) you will be perfectly fine.
March can be kind of "iffy" weather wise here, be aware of that. It's one of those months that can be on the cold side and rainy.

Thanks for the info. We're aware of the weather situation, so we're taking a gamble. We'll have a good time regardless. Re: Mexico, we definately have an open mind. I've never been, so want to see what a border town is like.
I think I'll go with the Windmill as I like that it's within walking distance of restaurants, shops etc.

Just a reminder to use passport into Mexico for easier reentry to US. It is an easy walk to cross and the tourist spots are immediately there and continue for blocks of walking. If you purchase large (or heavy) objects, many stores will deliver goods to the border for you. It is an experience!

I love all of Mexico, but just a word of caution, I've gotten sick every time I've been to Nogales. I think I heard on Michael Feldman last week that one out of every two people get tummy trouble after going to Mexico, not sure if that's true or not. So, enjoy, but stay away from uncooked food and water. That includes salsa and margaritas! annieladd
