Tubing on Kauai??

My wife and I go to Kauai every year, but have just heard of a tuging adventures in the old canefield irrigation canals. Has anyone tried this yet and what were the results. We are both in our 50's relatively good shape, but not extremely athletic.

I've seen it on shows. I would like to try it too. My question is that there are some tight tunnels you have to duck under which are completely dark. I wonder if flash floods are an issue. Other than that it just looked like a water park slide size river.

The tubing adventure is pretty new. I went on it about a month ago with some visiting friends. You do not need to be athletic or in good shape, mostly you will be sitting in your giant tube and floating thru the dithes. Some of the people on our tour were in their 70's and they had a ball. You do not have to duck when you enter the tunnels, there is plenty of headroom. Tubers wear helmets with miner's lights on them to see in the tunnels, one is over half a mile long. Don't think flash floods are as much of an issue in the ditches as they are on the streams and rivers. It does rain a lot in this particular area so be prepared to get wet!

Vivi--were you able to just wear your swimsuit or did you get cold? Is it fun or just scenic? We are thinking about doing this (four sisters in thier 20's and one dad in his 50's) and just wanted to get some opinions on the trip.

I had some friends who did the tubing in February and they said it was so, so for the money. It is about $80/person, which is quite high for an activity on Kauai. I haven't done it, but tubing down old cane irrigation ditches didn't seem like my kind of thing. If you go, you'll have to leave a critique here for the rest for us. Have fun!
