Trouble-makers on this board
What gives with people posting under other people's screen name? I've seen this on several posts and have had it happen to me. FODOR'S--YOU REALLY NEED TO HAVE PARTICIPANTS REGISTER AND STOP THE NONSENSE WE'RE SEEING ON THIS BOARD.

I'd be POd if someone used my made up name (GOL). I don't think registration is exactly the medicine, as I think it will stifle contributions. My suggestion is to have a unique identifier added to each post. This can be done using a portion of the IP address. All of us could easily tell if someone is posting under different names. A problem on yellowstone-natl-park.com's chat area was 'solved' by adding the poster's IP to each post. Fodors said they were considering this in one of their eariler posts.

I'm all for registration as long as my correct e-mail address isn't listed for the world to see. I posted under my address once and got 10 or 12 spam e-mails within 3-4 days. Some were for travel-related items but some were for porn. I didn't appreciate it, especially at work!

Fodors recently took a grab bag poll on the registration idea, and I think opinions were pretty evenly split.
As one who was recently impersonated, I can say it is a little irksome, but really no big deal. It is just a travel board, after all. But it did totally weird me out in an out-of-body kind of way for a few minutes. I started to wonder if I had finally lost my mind completely and posted something I didn't even believe and then totally forgot doing it. It's really quite an eye-opener to open a potentially interesting new thread to find you've already weighed in!

It may be "just a travel board" but those of us who visit and want useful information do not want to weed through the junk and figure out who's posts are real and who's aren't. I agree with registration, but I don't want my e-mail address listed for all to spam who wish to.

It IS just a travel board and if that's all you want it's pretty obvious by the title of threads which are REAL travel related and which are just silly nonsense (which I get a kick out sometimes too). It's usually the silly ones that have people bashing and using others screen names. Just skip those threads. You want to make this forum incredibly stifled and boring then insist on registration.

Frankly, registration wouldn't be needed if there were just a _little_ more monitoring of the really bad actors (1st nomination: fatty mcfatty). The webmaster can easily take care of them -- it isn't like this is a newspaper or a public facility. It's private and Fodors can do anything it wants with it, including bar people.
