Treasure Island, Las Vegas
Hi all,
First timer to Vegas here. Now, I have 2 sons, 13 & 15 who will travel w/husband and myself next June. I've made some phone calls to MGM, Treasure Island, etc. I'm told there is an added $25.00 charge per child for hotel room. I'm assuming this is standard practice?
We can get a room at Treasure Island for $108. (this includes kids & AAA discount). Good deal?
Thanks for your input.

This is common practice, but not standard practice. There are quite a few hotels that don't charge extra for kids. My sister is staying at the Flamingo Hilton next week (at an excellent rate i might add) with her 3 kids, and that hotel does not charge extra for kids. You may want to check out the Flamingo, although not as nice as the MGM or Treasure Island (mabye one class or 1/2 class below, but it IS a Hilton), it will be clean and it has one of the best locations on the strip. I would try to search for other hotels that don't have the "kid upcharge", which in your case, adds $50/nite to the cost of the room.

I was in Las Vegas 2 weeks ago with my husband and 2 teenagers and we stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton whch was really great. We paid $55/day for the 4 of us.
I personnally would not stay at the Flamingo Hilton. The Treasure Island is really nice but keep in mind that if they charge that much extra for the kids, I think it means that they don't really want them. MGM was my favorite hotel for teenagers but they are quite expensive.
Try expedia.com to find the best deals then call up the hotel and get a better deal.. That's what we did.
Good luck!
P.S. Hilton don't charge extra for kids under 18

Trish,
For your first time to Vegas, STAY ON THE CENTER STRIP!!! I can not stress this enough! Personally, i wouldn't stay at the LV Hilton due to the location (the above poster didn't state WHY he/she wouldn't stay at the Flamingo, which i'm sure was a big help to you), but if you'd like user reviews of all the strip hotels check out this website:
http://www.a2zlasvegas.com/hotels/rate-st.html
Just make sure you click on the left where it says "View Rating and Comments" and not on the hotel name.

Thanks for the info!
Hey there:
I've been to that website atozlasvegas, and I've read lots of reviews. They are all mixed reviews, some people like places, others don't. The reasons I'm choosing Treasure Island are: 1) We plan to attend Mystere, I'll be able to get priority seating and 2) I can get a "battle view" room that looks like it would be really cool for the kids (and yeah, I think it looks pretty cool too).
As for the "center strip", when I've looked at a map of Vegas, Treasure Island appears to be at a point where Las Vegas Blvd. curves. I've heard that this location is a good one. Is this true?
Thanks, Trish

Treasure Island is a good location. It's next to the Mirage and across the street from the Venetian. Your reasons for staying there are good. Stick with it. The Hilton is not close to anything. For that reason alone, I would not stay there. You see the Star Trek thing and then what?

Trish,
I'm the same as person as Thereuare (guess i typed too fast). Anyways, "yes", Treasure Island is considered the center strip, and the location is good. A good piece of info to know is that when you want to go to the MGM/Luxor/NYNY end of the strip, you can get the monorail at Bally's for a free ride to MGM (i used it extensively my last trip). I'm in the process of putting together an intinerary for my sister and her family of things to do, so i'll try to remember to email you a copy of it when i'm done with it (they leave this Sunday). Also, your family will LOVE Mystere!!

We are leaving Sunday for our first trip to Vegas and will have our 10 year old daughter with us. Obviously, we won't be going to casinos but did want great pools. We booked first 2 nights at Flamingo Hilton for $70.00 per night and includes all kinds of extras and the last night at MGM in Grand Tower for $79.95. I've been going crazy trying to decide where to stay. Just too many choices!
Treasure island was soldout for our dates plus from what I read the pool is not that great. Mandalay Bay was going to be $174.00 a night so I nixed that one.

The Las Vegas Hilton is waaay past its prime. Very poor location (unless you're going to the Convention Center next door), casino is old and smallish and the rooms are dark, dingy and depressing.
The Flamingo Hilton is better if for no other reason than the location, though I haven't been in the rooms there.
Treasure Island is a nicer hotel than both of the above. And don't kid yourself (pun intended) that any hotel in Las Vegas wants kids around (except Circus Circus, Excalibur and maybe Mandalay). That experiment failed and the casinos now want the adult gambling population without the fluff of family around to distract parents from gambling and expensive meals.
Trish, your reasons for staying at TI are very solid, and I think you've made a good choice.
BTW, TI is at the northern end of the popular part of the strip. Yes, technically it's in the midddle, but the real action and growth and tourism is from TI south to Mandalay. Most everything north of TI is slowly dying and most everything north is at risk for being the next tear-down.
You'll have a great time.

Just got back from 4 nights at the Mirage which is next door to Treasure Island. We went with our two boys ages 14 and 10. We loved Mirage, but I think you'll like Treasure Islandf - particularly for the price..You will be doing a lot of walking as most of the hotels you'll want to visit are further down the strip. We saw Mystere and it was great but we my boys enjoyed Blue Man Group at the Luxor more...We loved it too! I called 3 months in advance for Mystere tickets and we had great seats. Try for the middle section in rows AA - HH. You don't want floor seating for this show. Because we were able to get great seats by calling 3 months in advance, I'm not sure that Mystere seating would be a criteria for choosing to stay at Treasure Island. The pool was very important to me - Mirage's was great. Good luck
