Traverse City, MI with Teens
Hi, I am attending an executive conference in Traverse City with my kids 17 (boy) and 13 (girl). We are there from Saturday 6/23 - Wednesday 6/27, staying at the Grand Traverse Resort.
What "must do" things would you suggest for us (kids are athletes, I am NOT!)
Also, restaurants you'd suggest with a fun atmosphere -- nothing stuffy for the teens. This is a relaxing vacation!
Thanks!

Hi,
Here's a link you might find helpful.

Since you're on the east side of TC, driving to the dunes will probably take close to an hour or more, depending on traffic. Well worth the drive though.
The Leelanau State Park is also worth a drive - it's at the top of the Leelanau Peninsula. (45 min. from TC) There are some great hiking trails around there, and the Grand Traverse Lighthouse is located there as well. (www.grandtraverselighthouse.com)
Along the way, you'll go through Suttons Bay which is a fun town to walk around in, and you'll also go through Omena & Northport too (more small towns). The drive is very pretty.
If you head back down the west side of the peninsula, be sure to stop in Leland to see Fish Town. From there, you can make your way to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.
For things to do closer to TC, you may want to look into sailing on one of the tall ships out onto the Bay, like the Manitou, or one of the others. You can also rent kayaks and other small boats. (Check the site above for listings) There are a few public beaches to go to also.
Downtown TC has plenty to do and see as well. Your kids would probably love to walk around and see the shops.
Good restaurants nearby for breakfast are the Omelette Shop & Mabels. I like North Peak Brewing Co. or Mackinac Brewing Co. (both family friendly) for dinner. Poppycock's is good too, but maybe not for teens.
Have fun!
