I just booked our entire Florida Keys vacation online and used several of the online services, including expedia.com, travel1.com and others. Travelocity was by far the best, easiest, best features and best prices. I got a car rental in Miami through Travelocity for $109 for a full size car for the week! I called the car company and they couldn't even give me that rate over the phone. Their fare watcher feature is excellent. Go for it! Have a great vacation....

I have booked hotel rooms several times using Travelocity with no problems. Make sure you bring the reservation number on your confirmation with you, if it says booking reference not confirmed, you need to check back to make sure you really have a reservation.

We've been using travelocity without problems for a couple of years now - mostly to purchase airline tickets. I recently booked hotel reservations in Stockholm through them. The rate we got was the same we would have gotten booking directly through the hotel - they did offer less expensive accomodations in other hotels, but I was only interested in one specific place. I phoned the hotel a couple of days before our trip to confirm that we did indeed have a room and all was in order. I tend to use travelocity as a convenience, rather than a discount agency - their lowest rate search is useful, but I'm pretty sure you are getting the same rate you would be offered dealing directly with the airline or hotel. In fact, I cant seem to get the under 24 youth fare through travelocity that I am able to get directly through US Airways for my 18 year old son on certain domestic flights.

I had an eye-opening experience on rental cars with Travelocity. Was going to visit son in Dallas..checking prices for me there, he called the agent closest to his home of the nat'l company I normally use. They quoted a weekly rate, which didn't sound bad, but I decided to check Travelocity too. Their rate for the same company, same sized car etc in Dallas was considerably less than the rate that had been quoted my son.
Out of curiosity I called the branch he had talked with to ask why the significant difference and learned that they cannot offer the less expensive rates that you can get through the internet. Cannot do it, not even if it means losing the sale.
Lesson learned...from here on, I make rental reservations at the same time I make flight reservations. Haven't tried Travelocity for hotels but I've always been happy with flight bookings, including the ticketless reservations, which I was initially hesitant to try.

Thanks so much for all the input. We want to stay at the Luxor in Las Vegas. For the hotel rates for 4 people in one room, I tried Expedia, American Airlines Vacation (which had a pretty good price)US Air and called the hotel and Travelocity was much, much less. As much as $100 less than the hotel quote. That's why I came to the forum to check out other folks' experience. Thanks again for your help!

In most cases you will not get a good rate by calling the hotel directly. Agents have "wholesale" deals based on volume and get much better rates. Here's another good site:
