Traveling west to east coast
Hello all, in mid to late December I will be hauling a cargo trailer behind an SUV from Sacramento CA to Harrisburg PA and trying to decide if Interstate 80 or 40 would be safer due to weather. Any suggestions?
Thank you

I-40 would definitely be safer weatherwise. You could still run into some snow around Flagstaff or in the mts. of eastern Tennessee near Knoxville but the odds of running into snow on I-80 are much higher.

If you believe the 7 day weather forecast (you should), take I-80 all the way to Lincoln Nebraska. You can cut SE to get to I-70 through Indianapolis to avoid Chicagoland. Without a big snow dump either route will take about 40 hours of wheels turning . Make sure your trailer is not overloaded and make sure the tongue weight is at least 10% of the total loaded trailer weight. (nothing heavy in the back of the trailer).
