Travel with dog- NY/ Vermont?

WE have travelled from Toronto to Maine with an overnight stop in either Lake Placid-Lake Saranac area or, our preference, Burlington, Vermont for years. Now our favourite Suisse Chalet(dog friendly) is turning into a Fairfield Inn (not). What to do? Any dog-friendly alternatives known to others? She is small, a Cairn terrier, very well trained and quiet. So are the rest of us (family of 5, need two rooms).

Check www.petvacations.com. It's a website devoted to pet friendly accommodations. You might find something there.

Can't help you w/accomodations, but have a suggestion for a stop. If you travel Route 2 across Vermont, you should stop at Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury. Heading east on Route 2, just east of town, take a right at the road opposite the Fairbanks Morse factory (Spaulding Road?). Half mile on left is Dog Mountain. It's owned by artist Stephen Huneck who's work centers around, you guessed it, dogs! He has a church for dogs, an art gallery and plenty of land for doggie vistors to run around on and ponds they can swim in. www.huneck.com. I always stop there when I'm up that way!
Another good website for travelling w/your dog is www.traveldog.com
Good luck!

LJ, I don't know about Burlington's dog-friendly places, but I do know that Stowe has quite a few places that accept dogs. You might try the Green Mountain Inn or the Mountain Road Motel. I'm pretty sure they both take dogs. Vermont is a very dog-friendly state so I'm certain you'll find someplace. You can also check out www.dogfriendly.com

Have a good time!

Thank you 'Fodorites' Sheila, Betsy and Meg, I have printed off your info and will be checking out both websites and also St. Johnsbury info...Dog Mountain! Who knew? We've passed through St. J at least 30 times in the past. I just love this website for revealing the hidden bits of travel!!
