Travel in October

I am trying to find a trip for my parent's 25th anniversary at the end of October. I'd like a place with good weather that time of year and they only have about 5 days. I'm thinking South Carolina, Mexico or maybe somewhere on the west coast. Can anyone help me figure out which place would have the good weather that time of year and wouldn't be terrribly expensive? Thanks!

Hi Ivory,

South Carolina (Charleston area perhaps?) is beautiful, but you do need to be concerned about the occassional hurricane. The chances of an October hurricane are slim, but there is still a chance.

Maybe something more or a mountains vacation. October is peak time for autumn leaves. If you are interested in the Carolinas, you should start looking for hotels yesterday.

In Asheville, NC, the Biltmore Estate just opened up a hotel/resort. Also in Asheville is the Grove Park Inn (big place) and The Richmond Hill Inn (small, around 10 rooms I think).

Though I've never been to the mountains of SC, they should be nice too. Could fly into Greenville-Spartanburg and head into the mountains.

It's probably the nicest time of year in the SF Bay area.

How about Santa Fe or Sedona? End of October can be great here in the Bay Area, but it's also when the weather changes -- could be cold/wet then. New Orleans or San Antonio might be good choices.

Where are your parents flying from?

We live in Colorado and I was thinking it might be nice for them to get to the beach or something warm. They do love Charleston which is why I was thinking of that. Thanks for all your help!!
