Transportation in Maui for nondrivers
I will be going to Maui for the first time, staying at the Hale Kai condominium above Kaanapali with one other adult and two under-25s who I understand can't drive our rental car. What's the best way for the kids to get around, days and nights? Taxi, bus, bike? I'd like them to be as self-sufficient as possible. Thanks.

There are some limited bus/shuttle options here on Maui. I don't think the bus goes as far as Ka`anapali, though--just to Lahaina, I think.

Some of the resorts have shuttles, but I don't know about the Hale Kai. You could call them and ask.
There are also some rental agencies that will rent to under 25, like Enterprise and most of the local rental agencies, like Kihei Car Rental, Aloha, Word of Mouth

Scooter rentals are normally by the hour and the cost by the day will easily be double or more the car rental rate from a local agency that rents to under 25 year olds. It might be fun for an afternoon, but it's not a good solution to the self-sufficiency issue.

I go to Maui every year - usually alone - & I don't drive. There are a couple of shuttle buses (there is a fee) which run between Ka'anapali & Lahaina & between Lahaina & Ma'alea. There used to be one which ran between Lahaina & Kihei/Wailea, but I didn't find a schedule for it the last time I looked. The shuttles no longer run late night. I'm drawing a blank on the name of the shuttle company right now, but if I remember it, I will reply again.
