Transfer Ft Lauderdale - Miami

Hi,
Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to get from FLL to the Sheraton hotel near MIA? My family of 8 will fly into FLL, stay overnight near MIA and then fly out of MIA in the morning. The following week we will do it in reverse: fly into MIA,get somehow to Ft. Lauderdale to stay overnight and then fly out of FLL the next day.
I found a shuttle service for $39 per person,(too expensive), and a one way rental (full size SUV) for $140. We'd actually need the car for less than 12 hours and I was surprised it cost that much.
Any advice???
Thanks!

You should be able to get an SUV for about $80 or 2 compacts for about $100.

I'll bet 1 taxi is well over $100. And you need several.

Try Googling:

FLL MIA Shuttle.

www.passrider.com/cities/fort_lauderdale_fl.htm

If you are a little brave you can do it very, very inexpensively.

There's a Tri-Rail shuttle at each airport that takes you to the closest Tri-Rail train station.

I'm pretty sure they pick up there as well. Read the above link. Too much writing for me.

Good luck.

The trains run anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hour intervals and takes about 30 minutes.

If I remember correctly, a niece of mine several years ago arrived at MIA, took the shuttle, the train and got off at a station in Hollywood where my wife picked her up.

She said it all went fine.

You would just go one or two stops further and then take the other shuttle.

Taking a taxi at the MIA end is quite far. But pretty close at the FLL end. If you want to try and skip the shuttle.

Hope all this helps.

Hi there,

I live just north of the FLL airport and work out of MIA so I dont take a shuttle however I looked in our local yellow pages for you. Maybe something will work out..

www.southfloridatransportation.com

Ft lauderdale airport shuttle 954-757-7778

Super Shuttle 954-764-1700

Airport Express 954-561-8888

and then there is this :
Hello Harry Here Taxi who claims he is not a shuttle service but has large vans 954-270-2123

Trirail train is good, I have taken that but you will still have to get yourself to the sheraton.

Good luck!

Laura

About a month ago I took a taxi from FLL to my house in Cooper City. The meter had passed $5. and we were still in the airport.

Even if you have to take a taxi from a shuttle stop to the hotel, try to minimize those long taxi rides.

Anoften over-looked issue with car/SUV/minivan rentals for large groups is that the people capacity is often greater than their accompanying luggage capacity. While you could rent an SUV or mini-van that seats 8 (although most seat 7), most of these do not have luggage capacity for a week's luggage for 8.

When are you going? I just checked on Dollar for a one day rental pick up at FLL and return to MIA, and found fullsize cars at $51 all inclusive (assuming you decline the extra insurances). So for about $100 you could provide transportation at both ends of the stay. Two full size cars will probably work better with 8 people plus luggage than an SUV or mini van.

I checked random dates in November and in December and got the same thing, being sure to click the "special rates on this car" icon when the prices come up.

You can take Tri-Rail. There's a shuttle at both airports to/from the station. The per person roundtrip fare is $4.00 on the weekends and $5.00 on weekdays.

http://www.tri-rail.com/index.asp

Then you can take the Sheraton's shuttle from/to the airport. Or a cab.
