Thank you both for your replies. I have read about Supershuttle which is why I was hesitant in using a bus service. No problem about getting a cab, we would have to get one no matter what transport we use.

The site states the journey is 1 1/2 hours, seems like a long time but I guess that's the price you pay. At least it's a reasonable way of dealing with the luggage issue once it's on the bus we are free to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Many thanks once again.

Airport buses, which leave from defined bus stops, are different from SuperShuttle, which picks you up from a specific address and is particularly unreliable in NYC for some reason (it's great other places). I take airport buses all the time, but I don't often do it to JFK because of traffic, which can sometimes just be horrendous.

The reason why the airport bus takes a long time is because of traffic and stops at each JFK terminal to let off passengers (and the buses that leave from the West side sometimes also stop at Grand Central). If you take it, ONLY leave from Grand Central (they leave from Vanderbilt Avenue between 41st and 42nd), and that will save you considerably. Buses run fairly often, and there's a ticket office where you can pick up or buy tickets.

The one thing I noticed is that when I recently took the airport bus to LGA early on a Saturday morning, I was the only LGA passenger, and the poor JFK passengers had to ride with me to LGA before they went on to the other airport. That adds at least 20 to 30 minutes to their ride.

Hi Doug
Thank you for your suggestions again, seems like it's kind of hard work getting to and from airports there.

I will certainly take on board to leave only from Grand Central. That is a very valid point.

I think the main thing to keep in mind is to leave PLENTY of time to get to JFK if we take the bus. Our plane leaves from T4 at 8pm so I imagine we should be leaving the city by 3.30pm. It's going to be a long way home to Perth!

Thanks again.
