Tradewinds Hotel-Is It Great?
We don't want to make an expensive mistake on our family vacation to St. Petersburg (two boys 5 and 8 yrs.). We want a great view, a nice suite, and family oriented activities. Is the Tradewinds a great hotel? I would love to hear about your visit! Thanks.

I would not put the Tradewinds in the "great" catagory. It is one of the nicest hotels on the Gulf Coast and it is pretty but nothing like the Ritz Carlton in Naples or Grand Wailea in Maui. For the area it is very nice but some of the rooms are old and it isn't what I would call "GREAT." The Don Cesar is a gorgeous hotel but I haven't stayed there in several years. I was at the Tradewinds last year. The beach is nice but the beach in front of the Don Cesar is less crowded and prettier. Las Vegas Resorts and Disney Resorts have a certain wow factor and I am not sure this property will do it. But like I said it is one of the best spots in this area. E if you would like.

Personally, I'd splurge and go for the Don - what a terrific place. You can sit by the beach, under the palms, and enjoy a cool one. Great hotel - and to think they almost tore it down. BTW: if in a film mood in T, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" - wonderful. C
