Hi all,

We want to rent (a somewhat last-minute Labor Day weekend trip) a house on Cape Cod for a week. We love Chatham but are having a hard time finding somwhere we like that is available.

Does anyone have suggestions for towns on the Cape that are similar to Chatham (cute little cape town)- where we could maybe find a house within walking distance to shops/restaurants.

While each of the 15 towns on the Cape are distinct and have their own personalities - you might like Wellfleet. It has a small but cute downtown, several restaurants. Not as many as chatham, but still nice. Have not been there in several years, so I hope in this economy everything is still in business.

The New England summer has been horrible, not getting warm until a few weeks ago - so if the heat and sun continues into the rest of August you may be competing with others who held off until last minute to try to find a rental.

Some friends tell me they like Falmouth (at beginning of Cape) for walkability. Can not give first hand info on that, though.

I'm not a Cape expert but we did have good luck finding last minute accomadations in Sandwich on Labor Day weekend a couple of years ago. I think the town was cute. I'm not sure how it compares to others but if you have trouble maybe you can check there.

Well, Harwichport is one step up from dont close your eyes or you'll miss it. It does have stores and restaurants tho and you are near Chatham. Rte 28 is the road that goes thru it and there are many rest. and stores along it.

I like Harwichport a lot. It's pretty close to Chatham too.
