regarding the taxi; I was only planning on using it, for example, to take me from my hotel to the start of a hiking trail etc. not to travel within the whole park.

Even if there is a taxi that will take you into the park, how are you getting to West Yellowstone -- doesn't that require a drive from the Idaho Falls airport?
