Tours from cruise ship port in San Diego and Monterrey

We are cruising the California coast mid March 2022 and would like to consider private tours rather than only those offered by the cruise ship. Suggestions?

The Monterey in California only has 1 "r".

Perhaps get a Fodors guide book and do it on your own.

You will need to identify your interests, in order to get any suggestions.

The Monterey aquarium is a treat for most people.

Try Cruise Critic. Usually good for cruiser oriented port advice. Also it should be easy enough to copy a ship tour itinerary. Both ports are close enough to the major sights that you won't need a tour unless you can't walk very well. Unknown what the Uber situation will be if you need a ride, they are short of drivers now. There is some public transport but walking will still be required.

Severe shortage of rental cars so that may be an issue, but there is plenty to see near the ports.

You should google "private tours in.....". In San Diego, there are several. One seems to be promising although, disclaimer, I have never used it and do not know the guide. This will get you started, but do google for more ideas.

In Monterey you'll tender in at the Coast guard pier which is smack dab between Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. It is about half a mile from the Wharf and less than a mile to the Aquarium which is at the far end of Cannery Row. Both are easy walks -- I wouldn't bother with a tour myself.

Where does the ship dock on San Diego? If along the downtown waterfront, you don’t need a guide as so much is walkable. Perhaps hire a uber to take you over to Catalina Iskand.

I think you mean Coronado Island. There is a lot on the waterfront to see, but perhaps they'd like to see things that are not right there.

I'm also assuming Happy meant Coronado Island.

Anyways unless the OP wants to get into what they are interested in, we are kind of spinning our wheels. I very much doubt anyone here has any personal experience with guided tours in California from a Cruise Ship.
