Top things to do in Vegas?

My husband and I will be in Las Vegas for 3 days in October (our first visit). We will be staying at Ceasar's Palace. Suggestions for sites or shows?

I had a great time at Cirque De Soliel (spell?). It was at Treasure Island.

I agree...Cirque du Soleil has been named the top show in LV several times. It's a difficult to describe, very unique, occasionally funny, frequently awe inspiring production. Sells out virtually every night. There are now 2 versions: Mystere (at Treasure Island) and "O" (as in, "Ohhhh!", at the Bellagio). I've seen both and they're very different. "O" is $100. Last I checked, Mystere was $80 or 85. "O" is water based, Mystere land based. I think they're worth the $$ if it's an option for you.

just returned from Las Vegas yesterday. "O" and Mystere are fabulous. Call ahead. The fountains at Bellagio are incredible.

For an unforgettable side trip, leave the City and tour Hoover Dam. Tip- make reservations (on the Net) for the "hard-hat tour" a faciniating look through the structure that is well worth it. The visitor's center alone is a site to behold, that cost more to construct (inflated dollars of course) than the original dam.

On the strip, check out the Coca-Cola museum, a gem near the MGM Grand. We went inside for 15 minutes, and ended up touring for several hours. Even the kids enjoyed it.

Do see one of the Cirque shows. Bellagio fountains at night are spectacular - they "dance" to beautiful music every 15 minutes at night - for free! The Forum Shops (a shopping mall like you've never seen before) are at Caesar's and the place has to be visited. The Mirage has a volcano outside (every 15 minutes, I think, at night) and a dolphin show and white tiger habitat inside. Treasure Island has a pirate show. The hotels are outdoing each in their themes. The Venetian is open, and Paris will be when you visit. The Bellagio is lovely and just across a walkway from Caesar's. Go to the VooDoo Lounge on top of the Rio hotel and casino and order What the Witch Doctor Ordered. (Share it - it's big and bubbly and good) Do this at night and look at the lights of the city from outside up high. As you can tell, I really like this place. We go once or twice a year. If we could ever win any money, I'd go more often...it's a fun place ...Check out the discussion board at www.lvol.com

Just returned from Vegas-Bellagio is a must see, especially at night, make reservations for dinner-you can visit their site on the web and call from home before arriving. New York NY was a real kick-the new Venetian is also a great site-you can take a gondola ride through the hotel. Don't forget to see the Fremont Street Experience. Have fun!

First of all, I want to say that I am jealous of all you individuals who have seen a Cirque show! I was in LV in Jan., but only for a day, & didn't get a chance to see them.

I did, however, go to the LV Hilton, & went on the Star Trek Experience, & was absolutely blown away! It was fantastic! Even if you're not a Star Trek fan, you'll still enjoy it! The cost was, I believe, around $14, and the line was relatively short. In my group, there were people of all ages, from schoolchildren, to senior citizens! It's definitely on my list again the next time I visit Vegas!

If you have a car, drive out of LV and tour Red Rock Canyon. Absolutely beautiful. The geologic strata are stunning. Hoover Dam (as Dave mentioned) is also an awe-inspiring tour.

Ah Vegas...

We love Vegas. Go about 6 times per year since we live close.

Bellagio fountains are excellent at night. We saw them to the tune of "Singing in the Rain." Wonderful. Check out the lobby, the ceiling is amazing. The shops at Bellagio are O.K. but the Forum Shops where you're staying are much better.

For dinner, go into the Forum Shops and eat at Bertolini's on the "patio." Not an experience you'll forget. The lobster cream sauce over ravioli and creme brulee for desert are excellent. For an appetizer we usually start with the flat bread. Yummy!

As far as dinner at Bellagio, I'd pass. We just did this on Saturday and it was so overpriced and not a good value. You will do much better at Bertolini's for less money.

At Venetian, the Pinot Brasserie is very good. Try the Hanger Steak with Garlic Fries.

If you like seafood, try the Village Seafood Buffet at the Rio. Lobster, prime rib, desserts, etc.

Lynn:

I'm surprised by your comments about Bellagio. Did you go to the buffet, or one of the other restaurants? As I have mentioned elsewhere, I went to the Bellagio breakfast buffet, and I thought it was out of this world, and very reasonably priced.

I went to Spago in the Forum shops for dinner, and I would not recommend it. It seemed to be much more expensive than the one in Hollywood, and the food was only ok. If I'd have known there was a Chinois in the Forum Shops, I would have gone there instead.

BTW Lynn, I am quite jealous of you that you can go to Vegas so often! But perhaps it's best I don't live that close--I'd probably be broke from spending on all of the shows, restaurants and hotels! Either you must be loaded, or you must have incredible financial discipline!!!

P.S. Are you going to Paris the next time you're there? Would love to hear your feedback.....

The Las Vegas Gambling Museum at the Tropicana is fantastic, and a little-known secret in Vegas. I was dragged there by my in-laws, and it was the highlight of a 3 day trip. The history of Vegas is fascinating and the whole thing is a real labor of love. I agree that the Star Trek Experience is a complete hoot - even if you're not a fan. I laughed like crazy through the whole thing. A Cirque show is a MUST. I've seen both shows twice and they don't compare with anything else. Have fun.
