Tombstone, AZ

We will be in Tombstone for a day in Oct. with 3 little kids and was wondering what are some of the "must-see's" and "must-do's"? Also, has anyone gone into Nogales, Mexico from there and if so whats it like and is it worth the drive?

You certainly don't need a full day in Tombstone. The kids will enjoy seeing the shoot-out and the cemetary at Boot Hill. It's a tourist area - definetly. I would consider driving on then to Bisbee. The mine tour is very interesting and Bisbe, although also a tourist town, is prettier and nicer. You can drive to Nogales from Tombstone, but IMHO, I wouldn't waste my time. Little kids are not going to enjoy it - it actually may be more scary to them than fun! Nogales is a typical border town - depressing.

tucsonartist,
thanks, we will drive to Bisbee then...also we will head up to Tucson the next day, can you suggest anything for us there? Parks, a zoo or something entertaining for the little ones, also any restaurants for the family?

In Tucson we loved the Arizona Desert Museum. I would say wrong name, because it is not a museum, but a very nice interesting desert "garden/zoo" with all kinds of animals. For kids really great.
It is outside, so bring enough water, hats etc.

Old Tucson is a fun place for kids of all ages...the set for countless western movies and TV shows.

Absolute must is the Arizona Sonora Desert Musuem. My kids loved it when they were small. Other places to visit are Saguaro National Park, Sabino Canyon, and Mission San Xavier.
On the way to Tucson from Bisbee stop at Kartchner Caverns.

Other sites are Kitt Peak Observatory-try to do the night program and Biosphere. You said your kids are small so don't know if all these are age appropriate. Do a search on here for family restaurants in Tucson, I know there are some suggestions.

Thanks for your help, I looked up the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and read other threads on that and that looks like something nice we will all enjoy. Then maybe we will head to Old Tucson, just depends if we are "westerned" out from Tombstone.

And while Kartchner Caverns is awesome - it's not for little kids. People have to be very careful not to touch anything inside the cave and once you're in and on the tour it's hard to leave and for sure you can't come back in. So, if your kids are little I would skip it for now.
Tucson is very spread out. Let me know where you are staying in Tucson and then it may be easier to recommend restaurants.

We won't be staying the night, we are actually staying the night in Tombstone and will spend one day there and in Bisbee, then the next morning we will drive up to Tucson and spend the day before getting on a plane to head home...so maybe somewhere near the Desert Museum or the airport. Thanks for your help!!
