To all you Chez Josephine fans in NYC: It'll soon be open for lunch and on Sundays

Chez Josephine, a favorite of many of us on the board, will be open for lunch, starting October 2. Also, it'll be open on Sundays for brunch and dinner, closing on Mondays instead.

HowardR, I just checked out their website and it looks VERY interesting. Can you tell me what you like about Chez Josephine - your favorite dishes and a little about the atmosphere? Thanks

Seetheworld, Chez Josephine is multi-layered experience. Topping it off is Jean-Claude the owner and host. He is the textbook maitre d'...charm personified. You ask anyone why he/she likes the place, and Jean-Claude's name immediately is spoken! The overall ambience also gets high marks.
But, it's not just Jean-Claude and a fun atmosphere. The food is excellent. Just about anything on the menu. The soups are wonderful. I'm one of those strange people who loves liver, which what I frequently offer. I've also had the chicken, salmon and other items that I can't recall at the moment.
Need more info?
(I wish I got a commision for all this free publicity! Seriously, we love the place....and every friend we've taken there or recommended it to have loved it.)

Howard, thanks for the tip. It does look very good. We'll try it the next time we're in town, which will be February. Do you think I can bring my 16 year old niece for lunch? She looks and acts more mature than her tender age.

We visit Chez Josephine at least once on every visit to NYC.

I am thrilled to know that we can go there for brunch on our way out of town!

I love the liver! Also the lamb and just about everything on the menu. Especially the asparagus/puff pastry with beurre blanc appetizer. I agree with Howard that the soups are spectacular. Then, there are the nightly specials - lobster salad is incredible, and the filet mignon with the foie gras....

The place is a (nicely done) virtual shrine to Josephine Baker. We love the atmosphere, and the live music.

Without a doubt, Jean Claude is the warmest and most welcoming host on the planet. So is Ramon, whenever Jean Claude takes a night off.

Maggi, your 16-year-old niece will probably love Chez Josephine. And, she might even be rewarded with a kiss from Jean-Claude!

Since my last posting never moved this one one up, I'm topping to make sure Maggi saw my response.

Thanks for the reply, Howard. I am planning a very special weekend in New York for her 16th birthday. We'll make sure Chez Josephine is part of it.

Thanks for the description, HowardR. I too enjoy a fine foie gras. It seems like a very entertaining place to dine!

Maggi (and anyone else, for that matter), make weekend reservations well in advance.

A wonderful book about Josephine, I highly recommend, is called "Jazz Cleopatra."
