Haven't stayed there, but I've looked at it. Are you thinking of summer or winter?

Is there really a "resort" in Tuolomne Meadows? Or is this called "Tioga Pass Resort" and it is actually outside the park. Must be so. Fill us in.

Tioga Pass resort is outside the park, about 2 miles east of the east park entrance on Highway 120. I thought it closed for the winter when Tioga Pass closes (usually closed November throught May). It fills up quickly. It has a fairly nice restaurant.

I've stayed there twice in late August and early Septmeber. You cannot beat the location. It is close to numerous hikes in and out of Yosemite Park.

I stayed in a one of the old log cabins both times and while it was okay, it was pretty spartan and rustic.
It was built per indoor plumbing and electricity so it was sort of funky. I'd stay there again if that tells you something. I'd probably try to get into one of the newer units though. Keep your expectations very low and you'll be fine. It was very hard to get reservations, as people book the same cabin at the same time over and over again every year.

The restaurant serves delicious, stick-to-the-ribs food that is perfect after a day of hiking Mount Dana or something similar! Their pies are renowned!

The last time I was there we had all four seasons in one week, including snow! It was absolutely gorgeous.

Ag3046----they are open in the winter for backcountry skiers. I believe they bring you in by snowcat, or you can ski in. Looks like lots of fun.

enzian, that's right. They pick you up in Lee Vining and at some point the road becomes impassable and you can either ski in, snowshoe in or snowmobile in. I would imagine it would be a cross country skier's paradise.

Do you want to hike or ski? You'll have to check if they are open in the spring, probably for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The resort is located at around 9,000 feet. Their summer season is determined by the amount of snowfall, the weather and when 120 is opened. That area is usually accessible for hiking by mid to late June, but July and August are best. The weather is warmer and the wild flowers are blooming then.

Call them and see when they start taking reservations.

If you are talking about May/June you should plan on getting there from the east via 395 (i.e. not through Yosemite)

Tioga Pass road opens in May some years but not until late June or July some others. The "average" opening date is May 31. This year's weather pattern has been odd - but if we get any Spring snow (very common) don't count on having the road open.

In mid-June, you could well be hiking on snow. It depends on the year and the amount of snowfall they get.
