We had a house surrounded by tall trees once upon a time and we had raptors who would fly over and scare all the smaller birds.. We had a beautiful young male Cardinal fly into the kitchen window..sounded like someone threw a rock! When I saw him lying on the ground, my heart broke. I ran out and watched him and saw that he was breathing, but left him there, ran back inside and called a Nature Center..they told me to put him somewhere safe from predators ( cats/dogs) and leave him alone, he most likely just knocked himself silly.
Sure enough, after putting on my gardening gloves and picking him up...( there was nothing like that feeling of that small warm bird with that fast beating heart in my hand) he started to come to.
In about an hour, he flew off.

Hopefully the hawk will do the same, as long as his wings are not damaged.
If you want to catch him and avoid damage to you or the hawk, 1- drop a large cardboard box over him 2- drop a sheet/blanket over him first.

good luck

I live in Santa Cruz and we have a wonderful orginazation here called Native Animal Rescue. It's run completly by donations. We brought in a little swallow that we found into them a month or so ago. They had every kind of bird imaginable in there, even a pelican and a huge barn owl. Oh and sweet little fawns. Their mother had been hit by a car.I wish everywhere had a NAR.

I guess keep the dogs away as much as possible. I'd probably call the fire dept. They usually are good natured about that kind of stuff.

Hi mms, Krispey Kreams, yes a sugar coma for sure. Lindsay is across the straight and we have a refuge and rescue center by the Suisun Bay also.

Starrs, only 5 Star Hennesy I believe And the name Lady Hawk, sounds good to me dear one!

Hi Scarlett..we had a strange noise coming from the lightening fixture in our kitchen. The type of fixture that is like a rectangle box. Grandson #2 came running out to the pool to tell us. My son-in-law went into the kitchen and carefully removed one of the plastic covers. There was a little baby bird flopping around and screaching his little head off. My son-in-law gently removed him and took him outside. Dear baby bird collapsed for a moment and than flew to the birdbath and revived himself and merrily flew away. Thank goodness we were home but we never did figure out how he got in the fixture. Strange!!

Lovey, That's amazing about the baby bird in the light fixture!

I have a little child's desk on my front porch that was put there "temporarily" and became handy to hold dog treats, etc. Temporary has been quite a while now. A little wren built a nest in the cubbyhole and whenever I come home it flies out and heads to the fencepost. When I forget about it and the light isn't on it can startle/ scare me as it rushes out at night. One night there was a very gentle collision - it flew right into my leg. Startled us both, I'm sure.

Hi Starrs, my garden where I am now seems to attract the hummingbirds. They love my fountain too and I so love watching them but I understand about your little friend startling you as I have had that happen with the hummingbirds, lol.

The baby bird in the light fixture was strange..never did figure out how he got there. My grandson was about 7 years old and had a great imagination so when he came running out of the house we sort of ignored him until he rather yelled at us the 3rd time about the strange noise. Thank goodness he was in the kitchen and insisted "someone" go check it out.

I hope your injured hawk will be alright. Let us know if you find out.
