This Family Needs Ideas on Where to Go

This family of 5 desperately needs to find someplace to go for spring break. We live in Chicago area & would like some warmth, if possible, but would consider something else as well. I know we are way late in the game for planning.

For various reasons, my husband won't go to Mexico, so that is out of the question. We love Maui, Kauai, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, .... we like nice accomodations. We only have a week and would prefer a shorter flight time & less expense than Hawaii offers. So, any ideas of something in the USA (or elsewhere that won't cost two arms & a leg) that might fit the bill?

Mexico would have been my first choice with your parameters (short flight + warm + less expensive than Hawaii).

Puerto Rico might interest you. It has beaches, warm weather, rainforest hikes, snorkeling, biobay, caves and San Juan is a beautiful city with many good restaurants plus nightlife, culture and history.

Notwithstanding some scary recent news, cruises offer excellent value for families, and offer some major advantages - lots of kids' programs (if that applies,) unpack once, no-hassle food choices, no rental car yoga. They're all-inclusive (room, food, transportation, "entertainment") and on a per-person-per day basis often cheaper by a long shot than going it on your own. A lot of good deals out there right now (maybe not surprising.)

Stay away from overpriced excursions (maybe rent a car for a day to explore that Caribbean island) and you might be surprised how fun it can be.

How about southern Arizona, Tucson etc., or New Mexico, White Sands NP, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Carlsbad Caverns.

Thank you all -- I will check these all out. Is the Orange Beach area crowded?
