My husband and I will be traveling to Charleston in July and thinking about staying at the Vendue Inn. Has anyone stayed here and is this a good choice? Is parking a problem in Charleston? Any thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't stayed there, but I've heard good things from people who have. The location is excellent, and there's a rooftop bar/cafe that's very pleasant. (July is very hot in Charleston, and there should be a breeze up there.)

Parking is not as difficult as "big city" parking, but you do need to find off-street parking -- most lodgings in Charleston have agreements with nearby parking decks, and I'm sure the Vendue does, too.

We stayed at the Vendue in 1990, so this info is quite dated. The main building rooms looked lovely when we peeked into them. We were in a suite in a separate building which I would not recommend as it was quite dark--not much natural light. The rooftop terrace was not much when we were there (in September) but sounds like that might have changed since then. We drove to Charleston, so there was someplace to park our car, but I can't remember the arrangement.

My husband and I stayed at the Vendue Inn two weeks ago. It is a great place to stay. The rooms are nice and the people that work at the hotel went out of their way to make it an enjoyable stay. They have turn down service at night and leave chocolate candy and a note on what the weather is expected to be the next day. They also have wine and cheese in a room off the lobby every day from 4 to 6pm and cordials around 8pm followed by milk and cookies at 9pm.
The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to the marketplace and great shops, along with alot of the great restaurants in Charleston. It is a half block from Waterfront Park, easy walking to the Battery and you can catch the trolley in front of the hotel to go to the Visitors Center, Aquarium, and Marina. We had lunch one day at the restaurant on the rooftop. The food was good and the view was nice overlooking the harbor. It was a bit windy though when we were up there. We also had dinner one night in the Library Restaurant off the lobby . Our meal was excellent and would highly recommend this restaurant. The breakfast buffets were very good with an assortment of muffins, pastries, bagels, scrambled eggs, grits, sausage and bacon, fresh fruit, biscuits, cereals, juices, etc. Because the trolley and bus system was so good in downtown Charleston, we did not rent a car for our stay. I believe if you do have a car, the fee is $12.00 a night at the Vendue for parking. We rented a car for just one day to go out to the plantations for half a day of sightseeing and then out to the beach. We rented from Enterprise which has a location downtown. They picked us up at the Vendue and took us back to the rental agency to pick up the car. They brought us back to the Vendue in the evening when we brought the car back to the agency. Charleston is a lovely city. We really enjoyed our visit and saw and did alot while we were there. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. My only warning is that it was very HOT and HUMID while we were there and I had wished I had packed my water mister.

My husband and I have stayed at the Vendue Inn, as well as several other inns in Charleston and enjoyed our stay there immensely! The previous poster is correct in that it's one of the best locations in town. We didn't eat dinner there but did have drinks at the rooftop bar - great late afternoon/early evening spot. We just returned from our annual trip to SC and I would highly recommend the aquarium - especially if you have a morning or afternoon of rain and need an 'indoor' activity. Magnolia's (for dinner) was stellar, as usual.
