things to do in Tennessee
HI,
I'm planning a trip to Memphis and Gatlinburg for june 11-15. I'll be traveling with 4 kids, ages 6, 10, 14, and 16, and three adults. We're planning to go to Graceland but I'm wondering what else there might be in Memphis that might interest such a wide range of ages.
Also, is there anything we should consider between Memphis and Gatlinburg that would warrant a stop over? We'll be horseback riding, canoeing, Dollywood, shopping, etc. in G'burg.
We're also interested in finding good family oriented restaurants other than chains for dining. Any suggestions along those lines would be welcome, too.
Thanks,
Melissa

The zoo! It's got a great reputation. Take them to the Peabody Hotel to see the ducks come down in the morning - it'll be a real treat. If you need a place to stay in Memphis I can highly recommend the Marriott Residence Inn downtown. Each unit has a fully-equipped kitchen and they have good, free breakfasts. There are lots of restaurants downtown within walking distance of that hotel. Huey's is one good example that pops to mind.

With only 5 days and so much to do in the mountains, I'd just head straight over to Gatlinburg.
I agree with seeing the Peabody ducks in Memphis.
Spend the night in the Nashville area if you need to split the drive, but I'd go straight across the state.
1 day in Memphis
1 day to drive cross state
at least 1 day at Dollywood
1 day at Splash Mountain
1 day to canoe/ horseback ride/ shop
= You are out of vacation days
