Things to do In Tahoe

There will be two of us going to Tahoe for a special trip March 17th thru the 21st.

We will be flying into Sacramento and driving to S. Lake Tahoe. We already have a 4 wheel drive car reserved, and a room at the Beachcomber Inn right on the beach.

We arrive at 11:00 on the 17th, so I figure we will start heading to S. Lake Tahoe around 12:00 or 12:30. And we leave on the 21st around 3:00.

I think that will give us:
17th - in S. Lake Tahoe around 3:00 depending on weather and we will probably just check in the hotel, get settled, have dinner in S. Lake Tahoe, and then visit the casinos.
18th - all day
19th - all day
20th - all day (need a special dinner - could be anywhere around the lake as we could make this our drive sightseeing day)
21st - leave around 10:30 or 11:00 for a 2:50 flight.

I am looking for suggestions on places to go and visit, things to do, special scenary to see, wildlife, restaurants etc. Here are ideas I have so far.

We love beautiful scenary, hiking, gambling, little cute towns etc).

1. Take one day and drive around the whole lake (looking for NOT to miss things to do/towns/restaurants/sightseeing along the way).

2. Snowmobiling (just a couple of hours or half day - any suggesetions on tour companies, where to go snowmobiling etc).

3. WE might ski (but not sure as we would ahve to rent all the equipement and would need some ski clothes)...but no matter what hopefully take a ski lift or gondola to teh top of the mountains for scenary (maybe lunch somewhere at top if there is one).

Any help would be appreciative!!!

Let me know if you need any more info on what we like.

Heavenly Valley has the most scenic skiing; gorgeous views of the lake all the way down the runs. Gondola to the top, too.

Don't have time just now for a long answer - but just a couple of quick comments:

1) some "Don't Miss" places are Emerald Bay - you will drive right around it, but be sure to park at the top and get a close look at the water falls. Sand Harbor just SE of Incline Village is probably the single prettiest place on the entire lake. Be sure to walk all the way around on the board walks through the dunes and rock formations.

and 2) I would definitely leave before 11:00 for a 2:50 flight. SMF usually isn't bad, but security lines can be nothing or really loooooong. (which terminal are you using?) A wed afternoon shouldn't be too bad - but you never know. Plus you have to factor in dropping the car and taking the shuttle to the terminal. I'd want to be at SMF by 1:00 so I'd leave Tahoe by 10:00.

We did the snowmobile trip with Tahoe Adventure tours. It is a nice course through the Hope Valley. We did the sunset tour, which was very pretty. I wanted to do a lakeview snowmobile tour with Zephyr Cove Snowmobiles, but their trails did not have enough snow, so they were not operating at the time.

We also wanted to do a dogsled ride, but lack of snow took care of that, also. There are also sleigh rides available, if that interests you at all.

Hopefully, there will be enough snow there by March, so you will have lots of choices.

Thanks LVK, I will try to find them on the internet. The dog sled and sleigh ride sound great.

Any particular place or website you can remember for me to find them. I will also do a search.

Truckee is a great little town to visit, shop, eat. Kind of the Carmel of Tahoe, though in a good way, not a bad way!

You will be arriving in Lake Tahoe on St. Paddy's Day, March 17th, so be sure to stop by McP's Irish Pub, on Lake Tahoe Blvd. 530 542-4435 and check out what's happening. The Casino's will probably be decorated with shamrocks, we've been there many times on that weekend!

For your special dinner, drive 25 minutes to The Lone Eagle Grill in Incline Village, it's part of the Hyatt Hotel, located lake front. Reservations usually needed. If you drove around the lake another time, you could stop off for lunch and get a table by the water, as it will probably be dark in March for dinner, but sunset is fantastic. The Hyatt is on the NV side, so gambling in their casino.

I second the Lone Eagle Grille suggestion...it is VERY nice, and has a lovely lake view.

Probably the best meal I've ever had in Tahoe was at Le Petit Pier in Tahoe Vista. Very cozy, very French, very charming...also with lake views. http://www.tahoesbest.com/Restaurant...itpiermenu.htm

For a tasty casual meal, we always stop at the Blue Agave in Tahoe City, CA. There are also some cool boutiques and gift shops in the general vicinity. Enjoy...I love Lake Tahoe!

I also liked the Lone Eagle Grill. If you like fondue, La Fondue (across the street from the Hyatt) is nice.
