Things to do in Jackson Hole, WY

We are planning a trip to Jackson Hole, and want to hear ideas for things we should do, places to eat, recommendations for outfitters for horseback riding, white water rafting, things not to miss, etc. Any and all ideas welcome.

We spent a week in Jackson Hole last summer and are planning another trip in July. It is THE most beautiful place to visit. We love to hike, so that's what we did practically every day. The trails are well marked and we saw so many animals. Eat at Signal Mountain Lodge -- YUM and of course Bubba's in town for barbeque. Took a rafting trip down the Snake River which was out of Jackson Hole Lodge in Yellowstone. It was awesome. Had dinner beside the river and the raft trip was for over an hour. Have a great time. If you'd like any more info, write me!

Be sure to take the cable car ride up to the top of Rendevouz Mountain, the view is spectacular.

Re: Raft trip, I think the message above means the Jackson Lake Lodge, which is in Teton National Park. Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are next to each other, but Yellowstone is much larger and has the geysers, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (river). Tetons has the incredible mountain views.

Go to the Cowboy Bar one night. I am not a fan of country music, but it is a sight to see. They have barstools in the shape of saddles. I even did the two step. It was a lot of fun.

The other posts seemed to be right on target.
We stayed at the Buckrail Lodge, a small privately owned establishment (at the time).
It was OK, but not the Sheraton.

Signal Mountail Lodge is a good place.

And if you like to hike, and have the legs and
wind, take the trail to Amphitheatre Lake.
It is right under the peak of the Grand Teton itself. But a stiff climb.

You will love Jackson Hole. We have been there twice, and it is one of the most beautiful places I
have ever visited. My husband and I plan to go back out west, after we take our daughter to Europe
next summer. Be sure and try the fun outdoor bar
b q at a ranch. They even have a show! It was lots
of fun. Don't miss all of the hiking in Yellowstone. The wildlife is unreal. Have lots of
fun! Kathy

I used to live just south of Jackson and spent lots of time there. One of my favorite places to eat was The Lame Duck (Chinese). Best breakfast is Bru's. Be sure to take a walk around Jenny Lake in the Tetons, it's an easy hike and very beautiful!! Have fun and let me know how you like my adopted home.

Can anyone tell me what the lead time is for reservations at the Lodge? Also, is late Sept still a good time to go to Jackson Hole?

Mike: Anytime after the end of August, you will find Yellowstone and Jackson Hole relatively deserted and very very nice! Because most of the 2.5 million visitors to Yellowstone drive, most of them have long since returned home by then. I guess to get kids in school, etc, and it's a long drive no matter where you come from. Don't know which Lodge you mean -- Signal Mountain, Jenny Lake, Coulter Bay? Just call Teton Natl Park and check on closing dates. Signal Mountain may be closed by then. The weather will be pleasantly cool during the day and cold at night. May be too cold for rafting. You should see the start of some golden aspens. You are going at the right time. Enjoy!!
