Things to do in Greensboro, NC?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be in Greensboro this weekend (going to see Van Halen!!) and am wondering what fun things there are to do there. I will have all day Sunday to sightsee and whatnot and I was wondering if anyone here has some suggestions about what to do and see and perhaps somewhere unique to eat (ie, not a chain restaurant). Any suggestions would be great!

It's been a few years since I was a poor college student living in Greensboro, but I loved Ghassan's (next door to the coliseum in the A-framed building) go for the steak and cheese sub. Stamey's near the coliseum is known for bbq. Nothing fancy about either of those restaurants.

The Guilford Courthouse military park is a Nation Park Service park/landmark/something done by them.

The zoo is about 45 minutes south of Gboro and also in the area are the potters of Seagrove.

To the west in Winston-Salem is Old Salem. Set up to look like when the Moravians settled the area in the 1700's with period costumes and all that goes with it. However, if either Wake Forest or NCA&T has a home football game, traffic could be an issue.

Downtown Greensboro has some nice outdoor cafes. You could have a leisurely brunch.

Or you could head over to High Point and shop for furniture.

The zoo is a great idea.

Some other casual dining ideas:

At UNC-G on Spring Garden St. try Yum Yum for hotdogs and homemade ice cream.

Downtown on S. Elm St. try Fincastles Diner and Natty Greene's brew pub.

I like the Green Valley Grille on Green Valley Road in the O'Henry Hotel. Good food, comfortable atmosphere. Have a great visit. GSO is a nice town.

How could I forget Yum-yum's?!?

Oh, it would be Winston-Salem State playing in Winston-Salem and not NCA&T (which is in Greensboro).

Enjoy the concert.
