The google forum used to be deja.com. You had to register to use the forum. It required a legit e-mail address which was verified when you signed up. This discouraged nasty posts. I don't know if this is still the case now that google took over the site. I do check it out on occasion but rarely use it - there is a delay of a post appearing for three to nine hours.

Fodors is one of the easiest forum I've ever used (alot of the newer ones are just as good) - there's lots of activity and there's no signup procedure. Most other forums are relatively easy to figure out but it's the registration that bugs me.
What Google has that Fodors doesn't is rec.travel.usa-canada articles dating back to 1995. There are other travel groups as well.
I personally like reading a wide variety of opinions by surfing a variety of forums.
