The Rendezvous in Cambridge, Ma,

This restaurant on Mass Ave is one of the Best in the Boston area.
Everything is so Fresh. I run into the chef owner at our local farmers market
and he grows his own herbs on the rooftop, catches the fish from his boat.
The New York times did an article about him and his boat a few weeks ago.
This week's "Stuff" writes that he is one of the few chefs who doesn;t promote
himself. Monday nights is Tapas and Sunday night three cources for $38.
I wish I could afford to eat there once a week or better, everynight.
The chef/owner Steve Johnson is very warm towards his customers.

thanks for the review, Cigale. The folks at Chowhound consistently rate this restaurant really well, also. I keep meaning to go there and never seem to make it. I'm going to put it high on my list for the next time we head downtown.

I've eaten at this restaurant several times and it is one of the very best places I've ever dined, including meals I've had abroad. (If you look at my Fodors profile, you'll see it listed.) As Cigalechanta accurately points out, the owner/chef is not a "self-promoting" type, but the irony is that word of mouth on his place and his cooking techniques are so positive that he is indeed currently getting a fair degree of media coverage.

Here is the restaurant's website. The menu does change seasonally, but any season I've dined there has been (I've visited Cambridge in spring, autumn, and winter), anything and everything I've ever tried has been delicious.

Have either of you (or anyone else) tried EVOO now in its Kendall Square location? They also do a nice job with local ingredients, And also do a 3 course meal for $38 every day. I've only been once, but had a very nice meal there.

Will second Rendezvous -- liked this place very much the one time I tried it.

Will also say that if EVOO is as good in its new location as it was in its old one, it too will be well worth patronizing.

I think I went to Rendezvous with you and Jerry your first time. I don't remember much about the food except that it was good as we had a bit of wine (perhaps more than a bit) at your house before dinner and more during dinner. Glad it's still there.

China_cat, I've not been to EVOO. The website looks interesting, though, thanks for mentioning it. From what bachslunch says, it sounds like it enjoys a reliable reputation.

We went to EVOO last year before the move, and it was very good. I ate at Za recently (next door to EVOO, sharing the same kitchen) and its thin-crust pizzas are to die for. This is coming from someone who normally doesn't even like pizza.

The new restaurant that moved into EVOO's old space, Bergamot, is excellent too.

It's been a while since we last went to Rendezvous. We should go back there soon.
