Tallahasse to San Francisco

First time traveling nurse heading from Tallahassee to San Francisco. I have 4 1/2-5 days to get there. Would love to se the Grand Canyon on the way. Was considering I40 but im sort of getting scared off by posts about possible snow around Flagstaff. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Take I10 if you are worried about snow, although 5 day predictions tend to be fairly accurate, and you could decide your itinerary at the last minute.

In January 2009, I drove I-40 west from Amarillo all the way to Barstow. There was a lot of snow at the edge of the road in Flagstaff but the roads were fine.
You don't "need" a car in San Francisco. You could fly or take a train from Chicago within your time frame.
Driving I-40 you get the chance to see Albuquerque and a part of the old Route 66.
