Hehe Kal! MichelleY, I was at the Old Sugar Mill this past Monday. I am on a committee holding an event there this summer. My bad for not mentioning those areas.
One of the reasons I live where I do...wineries abound within an hour drive!!

Wow! We really appreciate all the help from all the suggestions....I love that we are getting such advice from the local point of view! We actually had a change in our flight back to Florida taking the Friday RED EYE. So now we have more time and won't have to worry about morning rush hour in Sacramento/airport. Any suggestions on places to stay the last night in one of the wine regions suggested? maybe a cute B&B?

I think the Napa area is a trip in itself, and not tacked on to Tahoe. I agree the wine country near Tahoe is interesting. That being said, I wouldn't go to Napa again ever. The Sonoma County Healdsburg area is much nicer, fewer tourists, better restaurants and more scenic drives. But for that, you should fly into San Francisco. I'd make that another trip.
