Swimming pools in outer banks?
Hi, We just booked a rental house for the end of August in Southern Shores, so with such slim pickings, were unable to find a house with a community pool (don't want a private pool with little ones, too scary).
Anyway, for a change of pace my older boys would love to go in a swimming pool a few times, does anyone know if there are public pools or somewhere we can pay a fee to use an outdoor pool while we're there? We're going the last week in August, Thanks.

We looked into this once, and could not find and pools to pay and use without having them available w/the rental.
There is the very nice YMCA complex w/indoor and outdoor pools and a bit of a waterpark, and a skatepark. It is in Nags Head on the Hwy., but last time I checked you had to be a resident member or have it available as a part of your weekly rental of your house.

nina: I saw a house on an OBX realtor site in SOuthern SHores that is still available the last wk of August, and did have the YMCA membership for the indoor and outdoor pools. It was on the oceanside, but not real close to the beach, and it looked pretty decent, 4 bedrooms 2 baths, and it was pretty inexpensive that last week of August. Are you interested or did you already pay for your house since it is less than 30 days til the rental?
I think the YMCA is a great option, esp. since you get the indoor pool for thos edays when it is too hot to even go outside, and those days when the wind blows the wrong way and those blasted biting flies come out. We had 2 days like that last August and vowed to get a YMCA house for this year, which is what we have done. The pools there are excellent (w/a water park area in the outdoor pool), and the older kids love to at least watch the skatepark action, even if they don't indulge in it. And the exercise area is very good too.
