Suprising my Husband for 40th Birthday

Hi, On Jan.15th is my Husb. B-Day we are flying to vegas on that day. I am suprising him with going first class, staying at Bellagio in the penthouse and flying his long time best-friend in that he has not seen in 20 yrs. Unfortunatly it is in Jan., I'm worried about the weather and what is going on at that time. We are staying until the 21st. He is the spender in the family and I am the penny pincher, I'm going far and beyond my norm. I'm so excited thou...His best friend and his wife will fly in around 7:30 and we will get there around 8:00pm.....I want to arrange a meeting place around a bar setting at the Bel. (hopefully we won't run into each other at the airport) They have to find a cab or something quick and hopefully check in quick. They have a standard room and we will go to the VIP Check-in. I need advice for him from the airport and a meeting place to surprise my husb. I have only been to Vegas once in 96' he has not been ever, nor his friend. I wish his b-day was later in the spring LOL. Any advice on the surprise would be greatly appreciated!!! And fun things to do....We are up for anything.

You can look at the Weather Channel's website for average temps for Vegas in January (www.weather.com). My guess would be coolish during the day (upper 50s to mid 60s-- might touch 70) and cold at night (30s and 40s). I went at Xmastime one year and got that weather-- and brilliant desert sun during the day. Depending on where's you're coming from, this may be quite balmy for January.

Sounds like a great plan. Have you checked the Bellagio's website yet for your lounge choices? I'd make reservations at the resort's chi-chi nightclub, Light (lightlv.com or 702 693-8300) and make that your rendezvous point. Are you working with the Bellagio's concierge? They might be able to hook you up.

Best of luck!

YOU ARE SO GREAT! He's going to have a fantastic birthday. Your concierge can help you find a meeting place, and even arrange to pre-register both rooms, so that neither of you have to check in. (You can just pick up your keys and go right up.)

Have a great time. Please be sure to post a trip report. We'd love to hear all about it!

Thank you for the quick response from both of you..... I have never done anything like this before!! I am definatly going to check with the concierge for check in for his friend and us, and also for the surprise meeting. His friend is in the military in DC.....we live in Florida and I just can't imagine the look on his face when his friend turns around at the bar and says do you come here often with groucho marks glasses on !!! He is a character!! My husband and I work together, so on the morning of his b-day we are going to work just like normal and I will have him packed. We don't fly out until 4pm....We have never flown first class either...I'm just going to go for it !!!
Thank you!

Take a look at the LasVegas.com website. You'll find show listings. You can also go over to the M&M store and buy "twofers" for some shows on the day of the performance.

Hi Surpriser! We just got back Saturday from Las Vegas and the Bellagio.
There is a nice club in the hotel called Nectar where people sit and have drinks and watch the people walking through the hotel and casino. That might be a good spot to sit and be able to meet someone. If he is not expecting to see someone he knows, he will be less likely to recognise his friend right away. I get so excited about surprising people like this-you must have Such Butterflies!!!
When you fly First Class, your luggage comes out first, but you have to stand in a taxi line. It will be cold and could be windy which makes it reeeally cold. I would recommend getting a limo-no standing in a possibly long line waiting for your turn. Limos can run around $65+ but in this case, it might be worth it. Ask the hotel about their limo too. Call them and talk to them now-they are the best at helping work things like this out.
Where are you planning to eat? Need recos?

What a gal you are!!!

If you plan to do any big shows...get tickets now. That would include O, Mystere, Danny Gans. There are lots of great dinner places at the Bellagio but you could go downtown to Binions Steak house at sunset time for dinner...fantastic! Be sure and do the Eifel tower across the street and maybe check out the lounges. There is a great piano bar at NYNY that is great for special occasions such as this.

Have a great time!

We were in Vegas last january ('02) and the weather wasn't bad for someone from New England. About 55-60 during the day, about 35-40 at night. Definitely need a jacket/sweater though.

My husband and I had dinner the 1st night of our honeymoon at Picasso in Sept. It was outstanding. I'd definitely recommend it for such a special occasion.

Also, I'd ask Bellagio about sending a limo for you -- looks like you're already spending a good amount with them and they might throw it in for free. And see if they'll include it for your friend. Never hurts to ask, esp. in Vegas.

Thanks to all, I definatly am going all out!!! It will take a while to pay this off but its worth it. having the penthouse which is running me around $600 a night they have complimentary Limo pick you up from the airport and deliver you. If its not busy,I heard I might be able to use it!! I asked for my friends to be picked up so they can get to Bellagio before us and they said no. I definatly want to try that Steak house Binions. Nector sounds great! Leona, What is twofers mean?? Will they still have tickets the day of? Also, one more thing....we will be meeting is friend around nine or so and then I know we will be talking away for a while, that day we will hae a long flight and we are on eastern standard time, is there anything nice thats open late even buffet style, because I don't think if I made reservation for his B-day that night we will make it with the reunion underway.
Thanks Again!!!

Listen to me after what I'm doing, I'm now trying to save....but I got cut corners some where right!!! Yes, Scarlet I have BIG BUTTERFLIES!! Hoping he won't find out because we work together all day all. When he comes in my office my heart drops....I must look guilty of something Hee! Hee! I count the days like its Christmas when I was young. This is going to be the bomb!

The Cafe Bellagio which is very nice is open 24 hours. You will all be very comfortable there.
Call now if you want to ask about reserving for O.
I would recommend Danny Gans also, and Mystere.
We just ate in
Prime, steak house, chocolate velvet walls, teal blue drapes, perfect service, lovely restaurant.
Circo is my all time favorite at the Bellagio. Tuscan, view of the fountains as does Prime. Again, perfect service and very good wine. When you make your reservations, tell the people it is your husbands birthday. The hotel will give him a gift bag, they will make a fuss in the restaurants.
(nothing embarrassing, just a lovely dessert and maybe a glass of champagne)
Olives is a good lunch place, we prefer lunch to dinner, too noisy and crowded, service can be spotty. But the food is good so do lunch there once at least.
The Petrossian serves a full tea and cocktails (and caviar) in the afternoon, this is right near the Lobby of the hotel. Book that in advance, we were unable to get reservations once we were there..
Take time out sometime and go to the museum and gift shop. It is a nice step away from the craziness.
We went to the Stardust Casino, and Binions, it was all a little too noisy, smoky and cheesy for me, there is so much to do right on the Strip, I think you will be busy enough without having to leave the area.
Also, don't miss the Aquarium at Manadalay Bay, we really enjoyed that one afternoon about a year ago.
I cannot remember the name, it might be the Fontana Bar in the casino, they have a great live band in the evenings and dancing, it is fun to just sit and have a drink and watch.
You will have so much fun

Oh wow Supriser.....I am excited just reading this! You go girl.....sounds as if you already have all of your ducks in a row for a smashing grand surprise!
As for looking guilty, you probably do!!
I gave my husband a surprise party last year and had a horrible time keeping my mouth shut at night. I would be telling him something and say..."Oh, guess who I talked to today?"...Then have to make up some lie about who I talked to and what we talked about!!
I haven't stayed at the Bellagio, but I would say you definitely have chosen correctly! I believe the twofers Leona may be referring to is the half price ticket booth.
Keep us posted as things progress!!

The Bellagio is impressive! You will have such a nice time and what a nice surprise for hubby.

My only suggestion would be to hit the VooDoo Lounge at The Rio. I think it has one of the best bar views of Vegas and they always have a good band. Of all the times I've been no techno or rap.
