superbowl 2004 hotels

I have the opportunity to go to the superbowl and the hotels that I can stay at are either the Holiday Inn Select Greenway Plaza or the Best Western at Medical Center on Main Street. If you know the areas which hotel would you recommend and why?

Do you really believe that there is a hotel room still available in Houston?

I will be staying at one of those 2 hotels, which do you recommend if you live in the area. Yes it's available for me.

$200 for a HoJo??
Wow, that's like paying $80 for a bucket of chicken from KFC.

Really? I had heard by Rice University where the Best Western was is a decent neighborhood but it's not? Is the Holiday Inn Select a nice hotel?

Rice is near the museums and there are sometimes incidents near the museums at night, according to my Houston friends.

vkb2,

Which hotel did you decide on? If you post, I can let you know some places to eat in the area.

Have a great time!

Decided to stay at Best Western on Main Street since it is closer to the Stadium and the events going on that week.

vbk2,

If you go a few streets north, you'll get to University (by Rice University). Just to the west of there is an area called Rice Village, with a lot of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.

Not too far away (a few streets to the west) is Kirby Drive (which parallel to Main). Along it are some casual restaurants, and one of the best barbeque restaurants in Houston (although that claim might start a feud). It's called Goode Company Barbeque. Across the street from the barbeque restaurant is Goode's Company's mexican restaurant called Goode Company Taqueria (and they have awesome Mexican breakfasts)!

If there's anything you would like information on, just ask.

I also wanted to mention that a new "light rail" just started running along Main Street. There is a stop near the Med Center, and you could ride it downtown to Market Square. There's a lot of fun restaurants and bars there. The cost to ride is $1 each way or $2 a day.

By the way, the stretch along Kirby Drive I was referring to in my previous post is north of Holcombe Blvd.

Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center in Galveston still has rooms available for Superbowl at a good rate. It is awesome and has so many other activities available. They are having a Super Bowl party in the lobby bar on Sunday and expect a good crowd. I recommend it for fun and safety.
