We gave our daughter (now 15) tickets to Hamilton in NYC for a Christmas gift in 2019. We were to go in July 2020. This fall, when things were looking up, my husband found some tickets for this weekend. We let our daughter pick a second show, and she chose Hadestown. We knew Hamilton had canceled Wednesday and then Thursday and Friday for break through Covid cases. We decided to continue on and hope for the best. While we are sitting waiting for the plane in Detroit, My husband gets the email that Hamilton is cancelled. They regroup and quickly get tickets to Wicked before we board. We get on the plane, and he gets the email that Hadestown is now canceled too. He manages to get Come from away tickets before he has to shut down for takeoff. Fingers crossed these can happen. If only we had come last weekend.

I want to thank whomever posted a trip report this fall and suggested the Archer hotel. So far it has been great. We got in around 8 last night. There is a Christmas festival happening around the corner in Bryant park. It isn’t so cold. It was wonderful to get some interesting food and sit in the park. If all I get to do this weekend is eat at the various vendors in the park, it will have been worth it.

I hope you get to go to Come From Away! It is a great show!

Eastave I am very sorry for all of your disappointments. I can see it was particularly tempting to ignore the warning signs because a young person is at stake. And stop beating yourself up with 'if only we had come last weekend.' Even the likes of Dr. Fauci can't make those kind of predictions.

That all said, I mentioned warning signs. The problem that is causing the cancellations is not show specific. Threats from Covid are like the rain - if it falls on one theatre in downtown NYC, it is going to be falling on all of them, even if some theatres are slow to look out the window and see the drops hitting the windowpanes.

It absolutely sucks that we have come so far but still have so far to go in this pandemic. But chances are by the time you read this CFA will be cancelled as well. I would recuperate as best you can by enjoying some outdoor activities for the weekend.

We were in NYC two weeks ago and saw two operas at the Met and two Broadway shows including Come From Away. The whole thing has nothing much to do with you and everything to do with a LOT OF OTHER FACTORS such as vaccination status, how careful or not careful people are, etc., etc.
You are wise to make the best of it and enjoy your time there.

There must be some great Art exhibits you could see.

I already saw Come from away, so it is just my husband and kid going. I am going to the Met!

Just heard that Radio City Music Hall Christmas shows are cancelled. Bummer!

You might want to pay a visit to the NY Public Library in front of the park. They have a exhibit of their "treasures": Charles Dickens’ desk and chair, Malcolm X’s briefcase, the manuscript of Twain’s Connecticut Yankee, the walking stick Virginia Woolf took with her on her final walk to the River Ouse, the first pages of the story that became Mrs Dalloway, Beethoven scores covered in frenzied notation and much more . . . It’s a respite.

Good news! They got to see the 2nd runners up. They went to Come from away yesterday. This is a nice one for us as US citizen immigrants to Canada. Well, our kid is a Canadian with US citizenship via her parents. They are at Wicked right now. I went to the Met and had a great time, although it was very crowded.

We went for Greek food at Loi Estiatorio last night, It was good but made me nervous to be eating inside. I have been bringing bagels in for breakfast, and we have been getting lunch at The Bryant park Xmas market. Yesterday, I walked/ran just over 13 miles. I took the subway to the Met, but I was uncomfortable with the number of unmasked people, so I walked home.

This morning we went to the Morgan (saw a draft of the Christmas Carol). While my family is at Wicked, I walked the high line. It was a nice thing to do when trying to avoid being inside with people!

Thank you to Fra Diavolo. We saw the sign outside the library about the treasures exhibit. We now have tickets for tomorrow morning.
