djanna, Take a look at www.SimplySarasota.com or www.SimplySiestaKey.com
Both web sites have great information on Accommodations, Activities, Attractions, Dining, etc...
Sarasota is a very cultural town right on the Gulf Coast, Siesta Key is one of Sarasota's small barrier islands about 8 miles long.

There is only one place to recommend, Shalimar. Right on the beach, great sunsets, just what you want.
No high rise, only single family cottages, or a 10 unit motel-type building.
We have been going there for over 10 years and are the "new" people. Others have up to 30 years.

I think they have a web site: www.shalimar.com?
Have a great time.

Patrick is 100% correct. You can't beat Anna Maria for what you want. There are lots of little motels and cottages right on the beach. Check with a rental agent (maybe Island Real Estate) or the Manatee Chamber. In addition to Beach Bistro, the owner has opened another wonderful place called Bistro at Island's End. Right around the corner from that is the Sand Bar which has a deck with a wonderful view of the sunset. Everynight they have a contest to guess the exact time the sun will go down. Enjoy.
