Sunset bat flights

My husband and I recently moved to Texas and are expecting our first guests next week. We'd like to take them to "Enchanted Rock" for a little hiking. We also want to experience a sunset bat flight. There are a couple of "tours" that I found online. One is "Sunset Bat Flight" through Hill Country Nature Tours near Concan, TX and the other is "Devil's Sinkhole Tours" near Rocksprings, TX. Has anyone been to either place and can give me a recommendation. Thanks in advance.

Never done any of the rural bat flights - I think the Congress st. bridge downtown to be spectacular, and never tire of it. Good crowds every night make it enjoyable as well.

Some people like to take a boat tour from the Hyatt, I like to sit on the lawn by the Austin Am. Statesman parking lot on the S/E side of Congress.

I can't help you with the rural bat tours either but I will "warn" you about Enchanted Rock. Make sure you go really early this time of the year. The last time I was there was in winter and the temps were in the 60's and it still got hot on Enchanted Rock! I can't even imagine hiking out there when highs are in the 90's like they are now. Also, it gets really crowded on weekends so you'll need to get there early for parking also.

Make sure you report back if you take one of the rural bat tours!

Another vote for the Congress Street Bridge bats in Austin--a spectacular sight. Can't remember where our friends have gone to see the rural bats but they loved the experience as well.

And re: Enchanted Rock, it is a wonderful place to explore but I agree that if you go do so early. We have been there in the summer, as early as possible, and it is so bloomin' hot until you reach the top where usually there's a breeze. We have never taken the main trail that most visitors seem to take to the top of big E instead opting for the path less taken up and around little E slowly making our over to big E. The further away you are from the main trail the better your chances are to see wild life if that interests you.

Don't know about rural bat tours...I only know the Congress Bridge Bats, but if I had to choose one of the ones you've suggested, I'd go with Concan! It's one of my favorite places on earth! I'll be there in a month or so for my 30th...my best friend rented a cabin on the Frio for all of our friends!

Another vote for Austin's Congress Street Bridge bats. We were there last August, they were great.

YES, do get to Enchanted Rock early. In the summer late afternoons it is like a giant oven. NOT a pleasant hike! It has already been in the 90s lately...looks like we're in for a hot summer.

Rocksprings and the Devil's Sinkhole is way too far off the beaten path to do the tour. It is a day trip all on its own.

Congress Vaenue's bat flights are really the best in the state. It's the biggest colony, and the setting is just beautiful!
