Sundance Resort Utah
I am new to the US board and did a search for this resort. I did not come up with anything. Have any of you been there? Thinking of taking the family for Thanksgiving.

We were there in June a few years ago. It's very pretty, but also very isolated. If your family enjoys spending almost all their time together and they like quieter activities, then it should be ok. If you like a wider variety of things to do and having the option for each member of the family to go their own way on occasion, then you'd be better with a bigger resort like Park City.
I would recommend it more for an adult couple than a family. It is beautiful, though. Very serene.

They have cut down almost all of the trees where we live to build more homes, so we want to go somewhere full of them! Not sure what we really want to do all day long, but I heard that they have small organized activity camps for the kids. Thanks for your input.

Thanksgiving weekend is usually a very busy weekend with most resorts hoping for enough snow to open. Sundance is at a lower elevation and their ski season starts Dec. 12. I would definitely call the resort and see what they have open and available to do during the Thanksgiving weekend - but it is a beautiful area and if you're looking for trees you'll definitely find them.

....but if your family isn't into nature I think that Park City would be better. Its an upscale tourist town and has lots of things for kids. I've spent 5 vacations at both Sundance and Park City. We did the film festival two years ago.
have fun.

You will be somewhat isolated there. But it's a very charming place. They have horseback riding and hiking. At Thanksgiving, there might not be any snow.
They have a great restaurant, and a nice shop.
As much as I like it there, I'd probably only stay 2 nights.

In my opinion none of the resorts in Park City are similar to Sundance. Sundance is isolated and natural. I think Redford filmed Jerimiah Johnson there. Park City resorts are upscale and trendy. Do an internet search for Park City resorts and also Sundance.

Calamari,
Sundance is smaller and more intimate than Park City. There might not be much snow at the resort during that time, but it will be pretty none-the-less. If you want to drive to Park City for a day - it is not that far of a drive. If you want to stay away from the crowds and development, then Sundance would be ideal. The Tree Room restaurant at Sundance is one of the best in Utah. BTW - just about every time I went skiing at Sundance I ran into Robert Redford. (He seems smaller in real life and kind of shy.)

Did I read, " just about every time I go skiing, I run into Robert Redford"? I'm from L.A. originally and have worked in the film industry. I have met a lot of celebs (very unimpressed), but I have to say that I would literally melt if I "ran into " Bob! My bags are PACKED!

As for a prior post running into Robert Redford just about every time when sking, No way. I have two relative who work there...that's why I stay there. He never hangs out at the resort. The people who know the people who might Think they see him don't even see him.

Just spoke to my new neighbors and they are from...Utah! They highly recommend Sundance for a sedate holiday since we are not great skiiers. The husband confirmed your sightings saying that indeed, RR spends lots of time there. Hell, even a look alike would stun me.

Calamari:
Here's hoping that you choose to vacation in Utah/Sundance. Truth is - chances of seeing RR is mighty slim, but the chances of seeing magnificent mountains in an alpine setting is 100% guaranteed. There's a reason the locals call this area "Little Switzerland".
BTW - if you are in SLC - stop by Bacci's for some of the best Italian food around. Best wishes.
