Suggestions-Trip out West Oregon & LA
Coming from Charleston SC-
Looking to plan a trip out west for my family of 4. 15 year old girl & 13 year old boy. Want to go to Oregon - possibly SunRiver resort (?) or something like that where we can raft, fish & be outside- then to U of Oregon, portland area. Can jump on a plan to LA for my daughter for 3 days or so & then head out..
any other suggestions of where to stay in Oregon & do some fun activities. We will be there early June so wasn't sure of weather.

Guessing that you will be landing at PDX. Do you want to spend a night in Portland or nearby?
Leaving PDX go east on I-84 and make a stop at Multnomah Falls (Oregon's tallest). It is a left exit to a parking lot in the median. The hike up to the top of the falls has some great views of the Columbia Gorge.
If you want to stay close to the Columbia and see Mt. Hood, stay a night in Hood River. Hood River is well known for kite boarding on the river if it is warm enough.
Plan on about 4 hours from Hood River to Sunriver via Rt. 35, US 26 and US 97 south through Bend.
Going to Eugene (U of O) take US 97 south to Crescent and turn on the Crescent Cutoff road (next to the Shell) to get over to Rt. 58. After you go past the Willamette Pass ski resort, you will see a road to the left to see Salt Creek Falls (Oregon's second highest). The path takes you to the top of the falls.
You may be lucky and see Rhododendron in bloom then on the short walk to the falls. Rt. 58 takes you to I-5 just south of Eugene. If you are looking for colleges, Oregon State is 40 miles up the road in Corvallis.
You can fly to Los Angeles or Burbank from PDX.

I think Sunriver is a great family resort with acces to hiking, biking, rafting etc.
Sun Country Tours has an office there through which you can book day trips. I think rafting the Big Eddy is a fun 1/2 day event.
Hike the Deschutes River Trail to Benham Falls- or you can ride bikes from Sunriver.
I have a friend who rents out her home there through Flipkey - so you might check and see what is available. There is a variety of homes, condos, lodge rooms.
The swimming pool area is called Sharc I believe so if you so stay there, ask if a Sharc pass is included with rental. It's rather spendy if not.
Bend is fun area too. You will see lots of kayakers and floaters on the river.

I echo what sunbum wrote. The Big Eddy is a lot of fun, we have done it many times. I do recommend doing it in the afternoon though, as it is much warmer out by then so much more pleasant for when you are in the water. There is an area where you can get out of the raft and swim around, and so the afternoon is more pleasant for this.
