Suggestions on dressing right for P.A.
Hi there,
I'm looking for some advice on what kind of clothing I should wear for November/Fall in Pittsburgh, P.A. I plan to visit this city for 3 weeks but am very unsure of what clothing I will need as it is very different to my climate.
I live in Brisbane, Australia and am used to tropics heat, I have never been somewhere with such different tempretures. I'm assuming I may need to dress warmer than the locals though, but not sure how much more.
Any advice would be fantastic, thank you.

To get monthly temperature averages for any location in the U.S.
1) go to www.Weather.com
2) type out the city and state, or the ZIP code, for the place of interest, in the space at the top
3) click on the [Search] Button
4) click on "Monthly" on the left
5) click on "Averages" below the calendar
The average high in Pittsburgh in November is a mere 12 C, and the average low is 1 C. It can get pretty chilly! I would definitely bring a sweater and rain gear.

It will be fall rather than winter, so you are more likely to have rain (actually, almost certain to have rain) than snow.
Are you coming on business that will require appropriate business dress or is this a visit that will allow casual clothes? You also don't say whether you are a man or a woman, and it still makes a difference. ;-)
Both sexes: you will be happiest with two pairs of shoes so one can dry out while you wear the other. One pair should be sturdy and give coverage to your feet as well, even to being a low boot. Wear them with wool socks.
For casual wear, a goretex anorak, a lightweight sweater (jumper), a long sleeved shirt, and a camisole or undershirt covers the top. The bottoms should be corduroy or light wool or heavy cotton with opaque tights for women. A hat is easier to manage than an umbrella if it is windy. My wife always wears gloves when the temperature is 18C or below, and you may be happy to have a scarf tucked into your bag.

All good advice above. Just so you know, I was born in Pennsylvania. Its postal designation is PA. P.A. is Port Authority.
Will you be renting a car for a couple of day trips out of the city? The Frank Lloyd Wright house "Falling Water" is worth a visit.

It really depends on how much time you will spend outside.
If you're mainly going to be inside (as opposed to out in nature/hiking) then jeans and normal closed toe shoes you'd wear at home will be just fine.
If you'll be outside for longer times either walking on the streets or out in nature then a thin 2nd layer under jeans can be helpful to ward off a chill. Under Armour leggins or something similar do the trick for me.
You'll definitely need 2-3 layers for tops. Again, a tight fitting under layer you'd use for exercise, with long sleeve shirt & a hooded jacket should be just fine. Top it off with a knit hat and gloves and you'll fit right in. You may not need the extra layers on warm, sunny days but you will in the evenings and morning. It's already dipping below 40F here in the NE US at night and it's still summer.
You can pick up a cheap knit had and gloves just about anywhere here in the US that time of year for

We can't tell how much you will feel the cold - since for people rom the NE it'snormal - and this is fall - not winter weather.
But -it's possible to have snow then - we had a lot last Halloween - although much snow before Christmas is rare.
But you must have two comfy pairs of waterproof shoes or booties, a sturdy folding umbrella, a midweight jacket - or raincoat with liner. Agree on having multiple layers available - since at night it can easily be 20 degrees (f) colder than at midday. You can get hat, gloves and scarf very inexpensively locally if you need them.

@ Paulrabe, thank you. I will look into that. Though for those tempretures I wasn't too sure either what to pack as I haven't been somewhere that gets so cold.
@ Ackislander, my visit is purely for a holiday so I will need only casual. And I am female, so like your wife I will be wearing my gloves very often haha. I don't fully understand all the clothing you have listed but thank you very much. (google to the rescue)
@ Tomfuller, Oh, sorry! Innocent mistake, I mean no disrespect with my ignorance. But unfortunately I have been told I will be unable to rent a car there as I am under the age of 25.
@ SusieQQ & sf7307, thank you for the tips. I will be prepared for that then!
@ J62, Majority of my time will be inside, but I do plan on going out some days to see around the town and be a typical tourist. Thank you for the advice, especially on the gloves and hat. I wouldn't know where to buy them here in Australia.
@nytraveler, thank you. Does it snow often that time of year and are you able to get waterproof boots cheaply in PA?

Shananigins, since you are under the age of 25, you are probably close in age to my daughter who went to college in Pittsburgh. While she did have snowboots for the snow, she would not have been caught dead in a pair of rain boots or waterproof booties. Females the ages of you and my daughter just wear whatever shoes they have when it rains. If their feet get wet, they get wet. So there's one less thing you have to buy.

@ longhorn55, Haha thank you. It usually is that way, looks over efficiency. Though I do have a pair of Dr. Marten boots so I think I can have the best of both worlds if they are suitable for the Pittsburgh weather.

To dress "right" in Pittsburgh, you need a Steeler sweatshirt, jeans, and you can wear your DocMartens, otherwise any casual shoe with socks will do in November.
Have a nice knit hat and wear a big scarf and some gloves to keep your hands warm. Black is a good color for these accessories.
The Steeler sweatshirt (or hoodie!) can be worn over undergarments on a not so cold day, or layered over a shirt, sweater, Steeler tee, whatever on colder days.
Wearing Steeler gear in Pittsburgh you will be appropriately dressed for just about anywhere you go!
