Suggestions for Miami
My boyfriend and I are heading to Miami for the July 4th weekend (4 nights). I got a great deal on expedia for the Courtyard Marriott downtown miami($47/night). Are there any good attractions (clubs, restaraunts, etc.) that anyone could recommend? We are both in our twenties. I hope to spend most of my time on the beach, but since my boyfriend isn't really a beach guy, I'm trying to find some alternatives.

The nearest beach is 3 miles away. You'll definitely need a car, and you'll spend a LOT of time in it. It looks like there is acceptable shopping around the hotel, and I'm sure there are restaurants in the area. Clubs? Not so sure.
Fact is, almost all of the stuff that would interest a young couple on vacation in Miami is in Miami BEACH-- specifically, South Beach. The most "happening" clubs are there, the hottest restaurants, etc. I do hear that downtown is getting a bit more action, but I'd still stay in South Beach. In fact, I'm going there in a couple of weeks.
As far as your BF-- what is he into, then? If you list his likes/dislikes, you can get better suggestions.

A suggestion - you should have gotten a hotel in South Beach. Granted it will be more expensive, but I wouldn't stay downtown... there is only Bayside (an outdoor shopping/eating place), which can consume a few hours there and you can take some boat tours and stuff, but most of your time will be in South Beach.
Want a place to eat? Go to Lincoln Road in Miami Beach (its between Alton Rd and Washington road around 16th street) and you will find TONS of places to eat... all of them are probably good.
Want something more "exotic"? Go to Versailles Cuban Restaurant on Calle Ocho (8th Street) and around 35th Ave.
Beware July 4th weekend... it is going to be PACKED PACKED PACKED. Get there early if you want to see the fireworks. Parking WILL BE A NIGHTMARE.
Good Luck,

This is so weird! There are three of us from IL traveling at the same time as you. We are staying at the Sheraton Biscayne Bay. We looked at your hotel, I think it has a roof top pool?
We have been looking for things to do also. We were told to go to Ft Lauderdale or Key West for a day?
An alternative to the beach is jet skiing or parasailing. We are going to try Parasailing. I know they have a lot of tours, but I do not know which ones are good? The Aventura Mall is nice. I was there three years ago on the 4th and it was crazy busy! If you get a chance, eat at The Melting Pot, it's a fondue resturant. The closest one to us is Chicago. There are a couple in Miami. It's a great couples thing! Let me know if you get any good tips on where and what to do.
Have a Great time!

I too will be in the Miami area for July 4th weekend. I will be staying in South Beach and trying to narrow down everything I want to do with my honey. There are SO many things to do in the Miami area, especially in South Beach! Like:
-- View the Art Deco and MiMo architecture on a tour of the Miami Beach Architectural Districts
-- Dance the night away (well, until 5 AM) at the cool nightclubs
-- Hit one of the countless trendy eateries (some of which are actually excellent)
-- Just chill on the beach
-- Do the shopping thing (eewww) on Lincoln Road Mall, or even schlepp up to Bal Harbour Shops for a more high-end experience
I know it's hard to find a really good hotel deal in South Beach, but I would have tried, kids. It's just much more convenient to all the things you'll be wanting to do. I'm paying a bit more than I want for my hotel (around $190 a night), but it's so worth it.
I don't know about the Melting Pot (in North Miami Beach). Maybe fun, but.... These are franchise eateries, first of all, and I am not sure that fondues have gone through the full "so out of fashion they're back in fashion" cycle. If you saw it featured in a show on E!, chances are they paid to have the exposure.
