I just ate at Luna Notte in Point Loma and really enjoyed it. It's not a true Italian place-- more of a Mediterranean blend, with some Provencal and Spanish influences in addition to Italian. But I enjoyed it very much.
In La Jolla there is a location of Piatti. I have not been to this one, but I have enjoyed the Piatti in Santa Barbara.
If you should ever come up to Orange County, there are several good French restaurants. Pascal and Pescadou, both in Newport Beach, are both run by French emigres.
Bon Appetit!

Consider Laurel, in downtown SD or El Bizcocho at the Inn at Rancho Bernardo in north county. Think they would both be classified as continental but are excellent with fine wine lists. Of the two, El B is much more romantic, if that makes a difference. Dick
