Subways near Financial District
I used to love to stay at the Marriott World Trade Center because it was so convenient with the subways and stores, etc. right there. I have been offered an excellent rate at the Marriott World Financial Center, a few blocks south of the WTC area, and wonder what the closest subways are now?

As someone who works in the area, I'd advise you to stay elsewhere. Right now the WTC is a large construction and excavation site, 24 hours 7 days a week. Yes, the downtown businesses and hotels need you. But from a personal level, the area is very depressing.
To original question, if you walk about a block east, you can take the 4 or 5 train from either the Wall Street or Bowling Green stations.
The N&R trains are still running. You can catch that at either Broadway and Chambers or Whitehall.

well, getting around there is obviously more difficult than usual. what with closed subway stations, rerouting of several lines, ongoing route construction. It looks like the nearest stops are the Wall Street stop on the 4/5 lines. Not terribly far, but can be extremely crowded weekdays.
Frankly, I'm not sure I'd want to stay there right now. It's virtually a block away from the southern end of Ground Zero with constant tourist traffic and , according to reports from local area residents, lots of noise and light all night from the clean up efforts.
I assume that's why the rates are so attractive, but I can't see the appeal of the area, for now
BTW check out the transit authority's website (www.mta.info) with regularly updated maps, inclusing a very detailed lower Manhattan map in addition to the whole city maps.

Celeste -- I saw this article today and thought you might be interested. It seems that the Marriott Financial Center has *just* reopened.
I suspect that the stores, etc. that you liked that were close to the Marriott WTC are now closed or inaccessible due to the events of Sept. 11. Therefore, I'm not sure you'd think of the area as "so convenient" anymore.
