Just wanted to know what subway trains we would take for the following trips. Empire State Building to Staten Island Ferry? World Trade Center to Rockefeller Center? Times Square to Grand Central Station ? Yankee Stadium to Times Square? Thanks!

ESB to Staten Island Ferry (South Ferry stop) - the easiest way is to walk two blocks west along 34th street from 5th Avenue (ESB) to Herald Square/7th Avenue and take the #1 local train downtown to South Ferry.
WTC back up to Rockefeller Center - take the E train uptown to 53rd Street /5th Avenue stop - walk 3 blocks south to 50th Street and 5th Avenue.
Times Square to Grand Central - take the Shuttle train (S) which just goes back and forth between the two stations.
Yankee Stadium to TS - take the D train (express) downtown to 42nd Street & 6th Avenue - walk one block west to TS.

There are of course, other ways to do all these routes, but IMHO, these are probably simplest for a novice . . .

Srongly suggest that you download the interactive subway map, print it out in large segments and study it. (Once you get here you can get a real print one.)

This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the staions and options and be more comfotable with the entire process - since many stations have more than one line - going in different directions - and others have separate entrances for the up and downtown lines.

(It's really easy as long as you're prepared - but easy to get confused if you're not.)

Also, if you have addresses, try the website Hopstop.com. It functions like Mapquest driving directions, but will give you the subways to take between two places.

If you are staying at a hotel, the consierge should give you a map. we wwere able to figure out which trains, but when in doubt, I always asked the subway staff in the booth.
