Store Luggage for the day

Does any no where you can store your luggage in order to go on a day trip from Oahu to Big Island. I would like to make a day trip to Big Island on the day of our departure. Would the Hilton Hawaiian Village where I am staying store our luggage for a few hours until we return? Does the airport??
Thanks

I made a pledge in another post to say what's on my mind, nice or not so here I am. What's with the "should", Jose? The hotel might, as a courtesy store your luggage, but lets not go so far as "should".

Think if everyone felt free to do this; those going on day trips, those with late departures, those just going off for an hour or so. You'd have to have a room designated just for luggage, a person to check it in and out, and whom, do you suppose, "should" be responsible if something happens to that luggage while it's in the hotel's care and custody?

Hotels do routinely do it as a courtesy, but approach it as just that, a courtesy, not an expectation, please.

Oh, for God's sake. He simply meant that the hotel probably would.

And I do expect it (and have always received it) when I have a late departure, going on day trips, and going off for a couple of hours. You are paying for a service from the hotel. That service includes checking bags.

Lighten up.

You are not paying for that service, I beg to differ with you. You are paying for a room and the use of the amenities in that room. You are paying to use the facilities of the hotel. The facilities in the hotel do not include a room for luggage storage or the personnel to watch it. They are in no way obligated to take care of your bags for you outside of your room. If they have space and want to assume responsibility for them they will and they'll do it with a smile, but it should not be an expectation, Jim. And, "oh for god's sake", you might consider a bit of lightening up yourself!

The hilton people are wonderful and will probably store your bags. i agree though, that you should consider these types of services as favors . It's all in the attitude!

All,
I do expect a major hotel to store luggage; Hilton, Marriott, etc..

I'll share a story about luggage storage and the excellent service Marriott provided. [I do not give permission to copy/paste/reprint/submit for humor columns, etc. or use this story in any manner other than by readers of this forum] We returned from an over-one-week trip to Alaska, flying into Seattle. We had to attend a weekend wedding before continuing with our flight home (a "stopover" flight in airline terms). We had tons of luggage, a willow stick my kid bought - and we rented a convertible in Seattle! I planned to store luggage in Seattle airport (checked it out on the net), but was not willing to pay over $100 / day for all of our stuff (which we found out at the airport). So, what do we do? It was 5:30am. I remembered storing luggage at Marriott's often the day I checked out but prior to my evening flight home. It was common on business to share rental cars and take the airport shuttle. Luggage storage became a problem that Marriott solved. Anyway, I remembered doing this at Marriott. So... I called the Seattle airport Marriott concierge and asked if I could store my bags over the weekend. Of course he agreed. Note, we didn't even stay in the hotel. We took all the extra bags (at least 5) and the 8' willow stick on the Marriott airport shuttle, dropped them off in the luggage storage place at the hotel, and took the shuttle back. I gave a $10 tip.

When I said "should" I know from experience that Marriott has a place to store luggage, and is very willing to do so. Hilton is a notch better than Marriott, and I would expect them to do so, too.

On the funny side, before our return flight, we had to pick up our luggage at the Marriott in our rented convertible, which we had to pile in all the luggage in all the seats with the top open! Good thing it wasn't raining and the rental return was close!

I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Dec 99. We left on a late evening flight and had our luggage stored at the Bell Captain for the day after we checked out. It didn't seem uncommonly done there. They even had courtesy rooms for guests to shower and freshen up before departure - subject to availability. I've used that too. You could request at the front desk. The courtesy rooms are located at the Diamond Tower, I think. They allow 20 minutes per person. If you're a couple, then you could use the room for about 40 minutes.

I, too, would expect any good hotel to provide luggage storage for guests with late flights. I can't imagine any hotel that would not see the worth of offering this service to departing guests, and it has always been available any time I have needed it. Usually one need only tip the bellman who retrieves your luggage, though I do remember having to pay $1.75 a bag to the New York Hilton for this, in addition of course to tipping the bellman, and feeling that the hotel should have provided the service gratis.

most decent hotels have a luggage/bag check (similar to coat check) service and I have used these services frequently. You might have to pay per bag, but the hotel should have one. Check their web site or call the hotel before. Olive Oyl needs to lighten up.

Thanks all for the help. I was almost not taking the day tour because of worrying about the luggage.
Thanks so much
