Stepped on a razor in Hotel suite.

Booked a wonderful night out for DH's 40th birthday. Had a wonderful catered dinner, fantastic service, but next morning when I got up out of bed, stepped on something very sharp, which was hidden under bedskirt.
Turns out to be a very dirty razor blade. Luckily did not puncture skin, but if it had, would have had to been tested for various things ( I know I'm a health care professional ). Spoke to housekeeping and manager of hotel who cut our room rate in half for the stay, but didn't seem to think it was a big deal.I accepted the offer, and didn't pursue further...my choice. What would you have done ?

I would have thanked them for cutting my room rate in half.

Unfortunately, accidents happen and housekeeping can't always get everything.

I'm with the above two posters. I'd probably also try to check the floor after arrivals in the future.

Before this, I would never have thought to look under the bed in a hotel. Now it's the first thing I do.

Good grief! A dirty razor. Not nice.

We always check under the bed skirts for mystery items. It's also not a bad idea to check the mattress crevices for bed bugs and other critters.

LOL! Chose the wrong smiley up there! But it does make you wonder if I might actually like mattress critters, doesn't it?

Too funny, Martha. That face looks like it was happy eating the bed bugs and other critters. Licking its lips!

Document, document, document. I would have written a follow-up letter documenting what happened, and thanking them for cutting the bill in half.

And I would have smacked Martha for that silly smiley face that looked like it was laughing at your dilemma.

Might sound crazy but I watch a lot of those real life crime shows on A&E, Discovory, and CourtTV. Sometimes DH's plant this stuff to cover up other things or behavior. How interesting that this razor did not show up until the next morning. Very strange. DH uses a blade razor, right?

Single edged or double edged? Maybe the carpetlayers did it? Do any men still use plain old razor blades instead of those cartridges like the Gillette (?) Sensor or the like?

Now I'm serious about this. How did your foot get under the dust ruffle as you were getting out of bed? I can see it happening maybe as you were getting in, but not out??? I'm just trying to picture that scenario and can't unless you turned around once out and faced the bed again...?

Now...I was also serious about the carpetlayer "doing it". We had some blades left on the floor in our house after replacing carpeting. Not that it really matters who left it, but in this case, these blades weren't used for shaving if that's any consolation. Was the carpet new?

Wagonwheel, do you think it may have been your husband's razor blade? If so, then it isn't the hotel's fault.

If you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't his, then you should write a letter to the president of the hotel chain. Could you tell us which hotel this happend at or what chain hotel it was? Inquiring minds want (and need) to know! ***kim***

I hope you are up to date on your Tetanus booster, even if you think it didn't break the skin. So sorry that happened to you!

At the risk of sounding like a total "square", aren't razor blades used for cocaine? Isn't that part of the issue here? I used to keep a razor blade on my kitchen window sill to use on my smooth top range sometimes. At a party in my home, this girl kept saying "I see you like to party". "Yes" I said. Finally someone had to wise me up that she thought we used the razor blade to "party".

I have no idea how a razor blade used for shaving would get under a bed skirt. And I'm with you, OO, who uses regular razor blades for shaving any more? Meanwhile my carpet layers use much heavier blades than regular razor blades.

Patrick!! Very good! I think you are on to something.
You reminded me of the following story.
Someone I work with stayed at a hotel with her husband and toddler. Toddler doing what a toddler does best (getting into everything) found a crack pipe in one of the nightstands. There was something else too but I can't remember what.
Let's just say, she got the hotel night free and a few free nights at any other hotels of the same brand.

Ha! That's too funny about the "liking to party", Patrick. Believe me...I'd have said something similar.

Love,

Another Square
