Staying in Capistrano Beach, CA - where to fly in?
We are coming from Boston area in February. Are worried about snow with connections, so are aiming for non stop flights. There aren't many! I am finding non stop to LAX. Can anyone tell me how tough it is to drive out of and back into LA on a Saturday? Or should we think about some other transportation to get us out of the city and get our rental car elsewhere? Would appreciate any advice or other suggestions. Thanks, sue

Try looking for flights to Orange County (SNA), which is much closer to San Juan Capistrano. The drive from LAX will be about an hour (possibly less); from SNA it would be less than a half-hour. Saturday out of LAX wouldn't be awful, but it's still an hour in a car. I'd go for a closer option.
The problem is, I don't think there are non-stops. If you can route it through Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW), or some other southern airport, your only weather concern should be getting out of Logan.

San Diego is another option besides LAX-- but it's roughly an hour from SJC as well. JetBlue unfortunately does not fly out of Boston. Long Beach is an incredibly easy-to-manage airport, but no jetways and limited flight options (from Boston it's all connecting flights-- and less of them) are real issues. You're about 40 minutes to SJC from Long Beach.
To recap:
Closest airport to SJC: John Wayne/Orange County (SNA)
Next closest: Long Beach (LGB)
I would call the choice between SAN and LAX a toss-up. Whichever one is cheaper would decide it, as I don't see much of a time advantage with either. I could be wrong (I live in Long Beach, so a schlepp down to SJC is always available to me, and always a pleasure)....

Hi, Sueoz!
I would recommend doing the nonstop into LAX.
Whatever delays you meet on the ground will be more than exceeded by the LONG wait for the connecting flight. Not worth it. Nor the headaches of connectiing flights.
Besides, Saturday is, as rjw has said, not a bad time for driving on LA freeways.
By the way, "SJC" is the airport code for San Jose International Airport. You had me confused there for awhile.
